I was triggered bad this weekend and need to distract myself. I remember playing tetris at my cousin's house when I was a kid. So now I've been playing it again. And last night I even dreamt of these different shaped blocks and where they were to be most suitably placed.

And just now I took a look and apparently there has been research done about it. So tetris is good from trauma. :D

Hmmm. Anybody skeptical?

Maybe some new connections are being in my synaptic registry. :hilarious: :roflmao::laugh::hilarious:

Wow, that's really interesting Nadia. I have played Tetris in the past and yeah, something about it is soothing somehow. I tend to waste time playing a game on my phone called 'Flow', where you have to join coloured dots together in a square, but every little bit of the square has to be covered and none of the different coloured lines can cross.

Kind of hypnotising and I too go to bed with the colours and shapes floating around in my mind.

oh my... Thank you Nadia!!! That explains a lot. I developed a tetris habit known as "one more game..." in childhood, early on in my trauma-saga. Right now I've disconnected my game systems, I don't trust myself not to go into the tetris trance. There's mah jong on my phone, it's enough for now.

Read the studies before and can tell from personal experience that you do keep the shapes and colors in your mind while you go to sleep. It can be very helpful with the flashbacks, but if concentration is difficult (on tough days) I can't focus enough to allow the tetris trance to happen. Still like the game and it can be soothing so I keep it on several e-devices. Glad you posted this.

I love Tetris and find it soothing the same way as colouring and other computer games like Dominoes. Does it matter what the research says? Isn't it about how you feel?

I can't find classic Tetris for Windows 7. Only messed-about-with versions like Tetris Worlds. I play my old Tetris software on an ancient laptop (Windows 98) that's very big and weighs a ton - it's also starting to fail. It's really old. What am I going to do when it doesn't work any more?

I use coloring books when I am stressed, they don't help as much with the flashbacks but for some reason it is soothing for me.
