The Boxing day hunt is a fox hunt. Which involves the tracking, chasing and killing of a fox, by trained foxhounds, and followed by a group of people on horses. Fox hunting was officially banned, but the hunts continue (not just on boxing day). Fox hunters now claim to follow artificially laid trails, but there is always controversy as to whether they still illegegally hunt foxes or not.

I always thought growing up that boxing day was because there usaly was a big fight on the next day. Much too my surprise I too learnt that it had to do with boxing the leftovers to send with the servants home.

Like I say, that was what I was once told, I don't know how true it is!

You know, right, it's meant to symbolize the feast which happened when the first settlers and the Native Americans had a sort of celebration together, basically? Your lot kicked our lot out of England for being Puritans ( although in my opinion dressing badly may have had a lot to do with it ), we came over here, fell over something now called Plymouth rock, didn't have a clue how to survive, shot a lot of Native Americans, starved, made buddies with one tribe, who we helped annhilate another tribe in exchange for figuring out how to do things like eat.We celebrated the various successes with a big feast together. It must have been a really good meal because we all remember it every year. I guess the next day everyone went to the mall, since we keep replicating that, too.

:D This exactly how it was taught to me in grade school! :D

Cooking up a storm I would enjoy, I have helped with recipes toyed with stuffing's and made a few pies over the years. The feast is a grand idea. Killing the locals too take there land and being thankful for it makes me laugh.;)

I was hoping we would not get into a history lesson....disease killed most of the locals. Little over 90% actually. I love history...and those who don't know it, will just repeat it. Sometimes the teacher's bend the truth a little bit.

Thanksgiving to me is just being thankful for what you have ( or don't have). Time for family ( hopefully ones you like). And to watch the Macy's day parade and eat as much as you can!

Turkey is in the oven just now, after preparing stuffing for seasoning. Well, my wife and I. She is the Boss, LOL. I just do what I am asked to do. :)

We eat at 1 PM. How many extra place settings should I set?

OK, I think I will share some of my Thanksgiving tradition and memories. I do this fully aware that there are those whose home life perhaps is not so positive. WAS not so positive.

I think I talked of some of this last year but there are so many new people here now and so many that were here that have gone.

My Dad was a minister, we always lived in towns that had or were near to colleges or universities. Dad would contact them and invite foreign students or those that were in town and unable to travel home for Thanksgiving. So my memories are of strangers, LOL. Black, asian, at least one from India. Many times, communication was strained. Of course, as a kid, I didn't have the appreciation of the memories that I now have of those holidays.

It was a big deal to be the one to read the bible verse about giving thanks. Not a big long thing but a tradition. And a prayer by Dad. I did the same with my children as they grew up.

No bible reading any more, LOL. But I do give thanks, as I mentioned before, for all my friends here. Have a list in my head that I think of by name but also a collective rememberance. I know I said this before but it really does mean a lot to me.

I really hope that all have a good Thanksgiving Day, in whatever way they, YOU, are able to!
