The Medication Rollercoaster..looking For Encouraging Success Stories

I am in the process of trying different meds to help with the depression and anxiety. I was so pleased initially when I returned to taking Zoloft and had Risperadone added, and Trazedone added for sleep. I felt better within a week, I was sleeping better and felt so much more hopeful and the anxiety was greatly reduced. Then I had a great weight gain, almost 10 pounds in 2 weeks with shortness of breath and fluid build up. I had to stop the Risperadone, and since have been prescribed Topomax. (3 days now)
I am feeling more anxious and sad this past week. I don't want to get discouraged to the point of giving up trying to find something that will work so was hoping some of you might be willing to share how you've coped with the med changes and if you are still coping or have had some success. Thanks in advance :).

I just started medication for the first time. It's scary for me. So far i'm just nauseous
and real tired in the afternoon.
I did have a flashback and migraines but that's nothing new. It's day 2 for me so the waiting game is on.
I'm just trying to hang in there and wait it out. I'm not hopeful that my medication will work, but you never know. There most be something though so i will just keep trying. I really want to get better. Trying new meds takes patience for sure. I really hope im not this tired for much longer. Anyway i really hope you find what works for you soon.

I think it helps to realize that most people have to try a number of different medications before finding something that works. Its frustrating, but in the end, I think its worth it if you can find something that works with you and gives you minimal side effects.

I've been on many medications over the years. I've had periods of trying new med after new med, and periods where I've been on the same med for years at a time. I'm now at a point where I now have a few PRN medications that I can take when things get really bad.

So I just want to say to not give up. It can be VERY frustrating, but its worth it if you can find something that will help stabilize you. Good Luck!

It is a tough rollercoaster. I remember the first two weeks I was on zoloft was hell. I wanted to stop taking it so many times but after the two weeks it got better. It's been several months and my doc and I still haven't found the combination that fits me. I had some side effects in the bedroom on zoloft so he added 150mg of wellbutrin and that helped ease that side effect now that I'm bumped up to 150mg of the zoloft there is a chance that the side effect can come back. It's just a constant test to see what works and what doesn't.

i expect that welbutrin will be added in, topmaz doesn't seem to be helping, seems to be worsening the depression. i'm just feeling discouraged. i appreciate your responses, though.
