The Moment You Knew You Were Free

Hmm. I had some moments and stretches when I thought I was (free), but new traumas kept popping up. I'm in a good place right now, but I still wouldn't say "I know I'm free".

I had run away from him 17 times, it was the 18th time I'd tried and I escaped to an Assisted Living Facility, where the folks who ran the place knew I had been battered. I had to have my meds replaced, as I had run without them. I had left all my belongings too, so I was utterly. I had been there for a few months, which I had spent in a rocking chair by a lace curtain and I watched out that window there, waiting for him to come and break my bubble. It didn't happen, and as time went on, it occurred to me that finally I might have really escaped this time. It took awhile, but finally I felt free. It took about 3 months, if I recall, before I really believed it.
