Therapies Offered By Nhs For Ptsd?

I've never been offered anything other than psychodynamic/art therapy/EMDR for PTSD (CBT is a trigger for me) on the NHS in the UK. Psychodynamic isn't helpful long term and I'm not sure if art therapy is either. I've been battling these demons for 15 years I really need to find something that's actually going to change the way it's left me feeling and the impact of having chronic pain syndrome for 5 years as well.

I haven't the money to pay for therapy but I would like to see if others have been offered anything else?

Hi,
I actually think most arent offered that much even, Sadly. Its usually really hard to get EMDR for example. I have only ever been offered CBT, (not going there again as its not right for me!) or basic low skilled talk therapy. But I do know some who have been offered DBT,

The best help I had was via a charity for trauma, Been rejected by other state funded places as they didn't feel able to deal with PTSD.

For me its not only about the approach and also rather about the experience and the knowledge of trauma. Good luck.

What was the charity? Was It a national one or a local one? I was told to talk to an local charity that offer EMDR but they have a 5 month wait as well. I do get very angry with the way people with PTSD are treated by the medical profession in the UK. I had associated somatic seizures for 5 years and I would constantly have doctors and paramedics tell me to stop putting it on and wasting their time, when I had no physical control over them.

Mine was a local one and I did have to go on a waiting list. The other problem was that it was time limited and my trust issues mean I can;'t go anywhere fast. It was still the best option though. At least they were professionals who were trained in trauma. They used sandtrays as well and thay was helpful when I couldnt speak which was pretty much all the time. Sorry to hear about your ignorant treatment.

You may find the wait is shorter than you expect. Keep fighting,
