Therapy And Connection

Thanks Chava. ..that's why I kept going back every week. I have opened up and am more vulnerable than I was at the beginning but still feel anxiety every session, although that's not as bad either. Perhaps it's being seen after years of hiding that is most scary for me.

Rumors, I am glad you responded and dont feel you've hijacked at all. I understand the emotional vacancy of alcoholic parents. That was my burden and used to think I'd been raised to be very " independent". Well, it took a while to realize it's much more complicated than that. Toss in those abandonment issues and reliance upon the therapist and it can feel pretty risky. Im glad you have a close relationship with your son and are breaking the pattern. Take care.

I don't think it's because it's a T (I don't have a T), I think it's as @Rumors said, & maybe versus trust, loss, fear, burdensomeness, pain, betrayal etc.

I absolutely agree. My T is great and know I would struggle with the issues regardless of who it is.

It's a big step to overcome it. (Or trust it's 'ok' to overcome it. Or that it's wise/ should be overcome.)
