My husband has been actively suffering from PTSD for about 5 1/2 years now, since a little before our oldest daughter turned 2. He suffered some before that, but it was occasional, and at the time everyone thought it was epilepsy. Eventually he came around and told us that he had been abused for several years straight on a very regular basis by his uncle, when he was a young kid.

These days his symptoms include major depression, disassociations, pass outs, panic attacks, etc. At one point he got suicidal and was hospitalized for a month. After that he was in outpatient care and then was caring for his grandfather. Between these two, he was improving significantly. Due to his improvement and my having had a steady job for 3 years, we decided to go ahead and bring a second little girl into our lives. Unfortunately, his grandfather died, and the outpatient therapy was only temporary, and he's now doing much worse.

It's been very hard, and there's a number of things we have to work on to try and get our lives better, and I think one of those is that I need somewhere I can actually talk openly about his PTSD. There are people who know the details, but I don't have any close friends nearby, and even then, it's hard to talk about something this terrible to someone who hasn't lived it and would need explanations...

Hi Rosetta - Welcome to the forum.

I'm relatively a newbie also, and a "supporter" - I have mild/moderate PTSD but my daughter underwent a traumatic and violent event. I'm here because of her, and the fact that there are few (if any?) of my friends or family members that understand the effects of PTSD fully. Folks here are very kind, and knowledgeable, and supportive of each other. I'm learning a lot, and hope you feel among "family" -

Hi Rosetta,

Welcome to MyPTSD! :)

PTSD is hard on all members of the family, and it is important for spouses to have support also. There is an entire section for supporters and I hope you find it beneficial.

Take care.
