To Serve Them All Of My Days By The English Author R.f. Delderfield (novel That Includes Ptsd)!

My brother suggested that I read a book called To Serve Them All of My Days by the English author R.F. Delderfield. It concerns a World War 1 veteran suffering from what they called "shell shock" who accepts a teaching position at a boarding school for boys in a fairly remote area. Since I have PTSD and left law enforcement to be a teacher, I connected with the story right away. (Plus when the main character gets married his wife has the same name as mine!)

I'm not finished with it yet but I hope to be soon. In a word, it is EXCELLENT! I cannot recommend it enough.

I finished it and was literally in tears, which is not normal for me since I am very unemotional.

I have been reading it in bits over the last few days.

So far it is good, though very little about his shell shock.

It pops up from time to time in passing references, but you can see the recovery in the main character as the novel progresses. I'm an American Lit kind of guy and don't read much English Lit, but this novel is a good one.

I am up to the part where they have just moved from the cottage to the main school as he is now a house master.

So many ups and downs with this book.

I am now up to where David has been promoted to headmaster.

I know! It is an emotional roller coaster for sure. But I guess that is true to life. We all have our ups and downs, but the main character really has to deal with some heavy stuff! I just wish I could be as strong as he is.

How much more can this man take, he has now married again and Chris has had a miscarriage.

I finally finished this book and have to say it was a good read.

I like the way at the end he gave another man the same opportunity he was given.
