Toilet Use: A Symptom of Anxiety?

Hi there,

Bare with me here but one of my worst anxiety symptoms is having to go to the toilet alot - 40 or 50 times on a bad day which is often what my days are like. Actually, it's not necessarily that I have to go when I get there but that I need to get to the toilet stall in order to end the anxiety spell.

Does anyone else spend alot of time in toilets?

Does anyone think this is related to agoraphobia symtoms as well?

It is actually quite a crippling thing. I can't go in taxis, buses, shopping malls are hard and small airplanes are the worst. I get so desperate that I would literally think of parachuting out of the bloody thing if I could.

Any ideas welcome. it's so frustrating and I am told and am aware that it is a manifestation of my anxiety.:wall:

Hello Blackdove.

You know there was a thread similar to this one some time back that I responded to,
it is very enteresting.
I still us the restroom alot and I always go before I leave the house for sure because
if not I would be using the stores or where ever I found one while I'm out.
The hardest time for me is when I'm at work I go before every run and we make
alot of runs and It's not because I have to go I think it's part of the anxiety
and bye going I can tell myself, hey you just went so your good.
At night is the very worst, when we get a fire run and there is no time to take
a quick leak, I get that oh shit I have to go feeling and then the panic, so
if you see a fireman in someones back yard at a fire taking a leak it's just me
so no spot lights please LOL.

Take care.

FIRE.

I believe having to urinate a lot is a symptom of several issues. A lot of children who are sexually abused wet the bed. Also, a constant trip to the restroom is a "release". Not the release one needs after being abused, but as a child it's one of the few things that makes sense.

So constant trips to the restroom to relieve anxiety and to get away from ones abuser seems to be a reasonable explanation.
