Sufferer Trauma After Trauma

Hello I'm Michelle

Where to begin. Well I will start with February 2012 when I was out with a 'friend' to see live music at a pub. There was a very drunk woman and I also suspected was on drugs. I was taking photos of the band and the woman kept getting in my way. After wards she lashed at me calling me names and all sorts cos I refused to photograph her and then she started pushing me. She chased me round the pub. I was so scared. I eventually told the landlord so she got thrown out, sadly he got punched by her

Later one of her friends was being all sweet to me telling me she didn't mean it etc. I had a massive panic attack, and so frightened.

Eventually this trauma started affected my personal and work life. I went on anti depressants and seeked counselling. The medication didn't agree with me.

Couple of months later I made friends with a mates sister who I didn't realise was narcesistic. She put me through hell. I ended the friendship twice and nearly she turned a friend against me and her sister who I'd known for years.

The following year My job was threatened cos of my health problems, but that the reason they gave me. They accused me of slacking off. I was really suffering. I was getting suicidal thoughts. Before I could be fired, I managed to find another job after 5 years of service at this one.

No more trauma for a while, but I noticed some health problems like burning out/exhaustion, weak bladder, ibs, weight loss, brain fog and so on. This did start to affect the new job and cos it was a zero hour contract they refused me work. So I had to get another new job, which I'm still doing now.

I got diagnosed a year ago with underactive thyroid and later low iron causing fatigue.

I somehow found myself in one relationship after another with a narcissist, both different. The first one was obsessed with sex, the other tried to control me and change me. Both ended the relationship cos of my health condition. I now believe I'm suffering with CPTSD. Iv not yet talked to my doctor about it cos Iv been more concerned about my thyroid and iron levels. It may be time to seek help again.

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders
It is the reference guide for determining mental illness used by doctors, therapists, etc. In order to be diagnosed with PTSD, there are certain criteria that is met for that particular diagnosis. Otherwise, your diagnosis may fall in to another category. Part of getting the right kind of help is having a correct diagnosis. You wouldn't treat strep throat with blood pressure medicine, right? Hence the reason why I would find a therapist that can help you determine what is going on.

Heya Michelle,

Welcome to the forum.
I have to agree with Rumors about seeing a therapist and getting the right diagnosis.
Usually C PTSD is a result of a prolonged situation that was life threatening in some way.

Nevertheless the forum is full of good info, also on the problems you are experiencing.
Happy browsing :)

Hi Michelle, welcome!

Your story is very similar to mine. I too began to suspect I had cptsd and I confirmed it with a therapist. You mention your repeated attraction to narcissitc people which hints that your childhood was probably not as healthy as it should have been. That sets the formation of cotsd. If you had a caregiver or frequent exposure to someone with addiction, narcissm, borderline personality disorder, or psychopathy, or any abusive pattern, it often leads to a tendency to run into a string of narcissists later in life, and that further compounds trauma. Please search for a therapist who is trained in PTSD/cptsd and who has a deep knowledge of narcissistic abuse.
