Other Triggered By Trump

I changed my mind about Melania. She says that "grabbing----------" is not sexual assault. She says it's a left wing conspiracy. She says these women have no evidence (I say screw evidence, his own admission is enough!) I think she is perhaps naive, perhaps brainwashed. She is believing everything Donald tells her.

At least her interview with Anderson Cooper didn't trigger me. It just disgusted me.

I spent much of my therapy session yesterday on Trump. I resent that. I resent having to spend good money, plus taxpayer money (from Medicare) on dealing with this creature, when I got plenty of other fish to fry. My T assures me that all her clients with PTSD from abuse are going through the same thing . . . lots of us are having Trump nightmares, sexual problems with our SOs, increased flashbacks and, you name it, and she's been working on a pretty good spiel for us all:

1) Remember we have three branches of government and it's historically worked to maintain checks and balances
2) In the unlikely event that the creature is elected, he will NOT be able to function in this role, because his personality is such that he simply cannot deal with this level of responsibility and will likely be impeached within a year (the "within a year" is my political junkie hubby's assessment)
3) in my opinion, and T agrees . . . though the statute of limitations has likely passed on sexual assault for the accusers we know about, he still has other legal troubles, such as the Trump Univ. case which is still in court (as far as I know), the illegal workings of the Trump Foundation, what may come out of investigation to his ties to the Russian government (and cronies) and its hacking into the Democratic Party and Hillary's campaign, and God knows what else. Plus we can pretty much be assured the Secret Service and/or FBI are keeping tabs on his supporters who are threatening violence if he isn't elected, and the Secret Service has gotten pretty damn good at protecting people. There's even been talk of governors activating National Guard troops to secure polling places. Hubby's not sure this last would be a good idea, but I personally would feel more secure if they were there, especially since we're in an area with some really riled-up Trump supporters who have guns, and hubby's going to be an election judge and is well known around here for being a staunch Democrat. However, I'm more worried about precincts in neighborhoods with people of color, as he's encouraging his cult followers to "watch" the voting in those areas.

In short, this creature's got a lot of sh*t on his hands. And every credible political prediction expert gives him about a 10% chance of winning the election, at most.

We just gotta hang in there, guys. Chances are overwhelming that he's not going to win. Still, because of the above, if you're a praying person, this is definitely the time to pray.

And if you feel moved to do so, call or email your governor to encourage them to activate some National Guard troops in your state to be a protective presence at polling places. I'm not sure what else we can do, but I really think that would be something positive.

Well, okay, yeah, it's disgraceful that we Americans can even think of that, but there are people out there, fellow citizens, with violence and hatred in their hearts. . . people who go to Trump rallies and say that Hillary should be locked up or shot. We have not seen this particular brand of hatred and undemocratic and uncivil behavior and speech in this country. I hope it doesn't transform into action, but who knows? I have a bad feeling about all this and just hope I'm wrong.

@hodge this is a bit partisan but posting. It's the projected outcome of the electoral college. With both AK & GA going purple yesterday, it may be closer to 8
92% now.

@hodge - I know this is a tough thing to do, but at some point, wouldn't it be better to really put yourself into a media blackout?

I can agree with the CBT approach your therapist is taking towards the issue and how to diffuse it; however, much of the fear you are expressing comes from a hypothetical - the notion of 'if he wins'.

The rest of the agitation seems to be coming from the specific kinds of sexual attitudes he has expressed and allegations of assault; that's exacerbated because of his very public and potentially powerful position. But that, too, could be controlled by avoiding the media.

I'm not being critical; I hope this does not seem that way. But I do question the wisdom of continuing to expose yourself to this, especially if it's also going to create a situation where you feel your time in therapy has been wasted on it.

@joeylittle youre probably right, at least in my case as I can't speak for @hodge.

My triggering on this issue is above and beyond my other triggering episodes in terms of the prolonged effect and how it's taking a toll on me physically. My body feels like it's gone through the ringer. The pain is all over but yes also in my genital area which I've NEVER had before. It's insane. I walk around all day in pain hoping nobody notices, and have to constantly do self talk in order to keep myself somewhat balanced. I picked up some topical medication today and I hope it helps. I just want to feel better!

A RAINN rep was on Chris Hayes show. She said the triggering is widespread. (Accurate use of the word triggering, as pointed out by her for this overused word.) The RAINN traffic is up 45%!!!!! That is HUGE!

100% how I deal with it all. I still have no idea what im doing 11/8 which is rather crazy but i do not watch it, ive now had to stop reading about it (including on here) and i do not allow conversations about it. So im in a like all blacked out now when it was just no tv media before but its too much and id rather say f*ck it (cuz i wont cast an uneducated vote, i refuse) and not vote then to deal with triggers all over the place that dont go away. They linger because all of this shit linger and my mind is blacked out totally and ive shut it all down and now no more triggers. Yay!

Before 11/8 im sure im going to slowly go back to reading my research on it slowly, which is how i started, reading only, as i believe in voting and want to, but during this insanity time, nope, its all shut out right now.

@EveHarrington me too. I've not had nightmares in probably 10 years. Now every night sexual assault dreams and during the day I'm having the most intense body memory type pain/sensations. Haven't worked my part time job since a few days after the tape released.

For once I am missing a debate. The man is whacked and cannot stay on topic. His lack of educated comments and.continuous lies ruins the opportunity to learn what either candidate supports as far as specific policy goes. He is rude and needs a MEGA TRIGGER stamp on his forehead. I'll read the recap tomorrow and may seek out a chance to watch it if it wasn't too chaotic. Insert gag and puke here.

Thanks, @joeylittle, you are right. I have been staying mostly away from the TV. But maybe for a few minutes every other day I can't resist seeing what's going on, and in fact, I'm feeling more reassured by hearing so many political analysts from the right and the left saying that this race is over, as recent polls in battleground states indicate no way he's going to get to 270.

My T also quoted C. S. Lewis from The Screwtape Letters on Monday: "The best way to deal with the devil is to laugh at him." So I have been watching John Oliver, Trevor Noah, and Stephen Colbert. And SNL. It feels good to laugh at him.

And, indeed, mockery of the sort many national-level politicians have to deal with really gets to him. He lashed out at SNL Sunday morning in tweet mode. What a whiney child. Even his wife said she had two teenaged boys in her house: her son and her husband. No shit, Sherlock. Lol.

He can't control himself. So now he says he's unshackled? Seriously? When was he ever shackled? Oh, maybe when his advisors made him start using a teleprompter. Hahaha!
