Triggered While On Jury Duty

Update: I've written emails to the girls' defense lawyers, telling them that fighting back the way they did was justified given the "guard" failed to identify himself.

They got back to me, thanking me for my email, and one asked what I would like to see in regard to their sentence, which takes place this Friday. I suggested that they were punished enough, given how they were manhandled and that what they needed was guidance, not punishment. I felt that any jail time would be counterproductive and that community service or some kind of program would be best.

Update: they were sentenced last Friday to 3 years probation, which can end early once they (a) perform 15 days in jail or do work alternative, (b) 60 hours community service.

Seems a little on the stiff side to me, but they can avoid more jail time if they opt for "work alternative" (chain gang) and stay out of trouble.

Wow. I thought Cali would be one of the more "together" states.

I don't know what the dismissal process is for my state; but they can easily verify my disability status if they needed to in order to ensure that people in my situation aren't faking it.

It probably varies by county, but Calif. is so screwed up that it would not surprise me if it was a state-wide problem. Heck, Stockton just declared bankruptcy a few days ago.

I'm in Cali, and I subtly told the judge that my past would interfere with my ability to be on the particular jury they were considering me for. He was a pretty nice guy and let me off.

Just saw this. I read somewhere the other day that people serving on jury duty can feel PTSD effects from the trauma of the nature of the case, etc. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like that so I can't imagine how you must feel like you're being retraumatized being triggered. Hope you get through it very soon.

Oh, the trial ended about three weeks ago. I'm doing fine now thank you.
