Hi,
Since my last post Issues with Therapists I found a new EMDR therapists for the summer and in addition, I found a psychologist that uses CBT and DBT and works with very difficult cases like suicidal, self-harm, borderline disorder, abandonment issues, and so on and has had a great success rate. His patients' reviews online are stellar. Patients wrote that they accomplish with him in 3 months what would take years with other therapists and that he used the session time very efficiently to get to the core problems. Also, that he is non-judgemental, kind, and compassionate but also direct and honest. He does not beat around the bush. The rates I am paying are less than what I was paying for my now-former therapist.
If you read my previous post you know that after nearly 2.5 years working with my therapist we broke it off after I sent her a very angry email. This was the first time I expressed anger at her. I think she did not handle it well and also I believe she was somewhat money driven and not focused. I had to constantly push therapy towards a goal. My friend who went to see her for 4 sessions agrees with my observations.
Anyhow, based on that discussion I discovered some deeper issues that I never addressed with my therapist like abandonment issues. I had told her that from the very first session that I was frequently abandoned by my mom but that was it. We did not address that issue at all. I decided with the psychologist to work on my abandonment issues because as some of you pointed out they will keep coming up unless I address them.
I want to hear what do you think and what has been your experience in doing DBT therapy. If you have done both EMDR and DBT do you think one was more efficient than other? Have you worked with two therapists in parallel? How was that experience? How long did it take you to resolve your abandonment issues or at least have control over them?
Thank You,
UniversalBeing
