Un Military Coalition Has Invaded Libya. Approve Or Disapprove?

I disapprove. This is just my humble opinion, and I admit to not knowing enough about the politics, as perhaps I should do, to comment. I can't help but be cynical, and think that the only reason other countries want to get involved is because of oil.

I also disapprove. I support our armed forces, but believe that there is always a hidden agenda. As CB says OIL. Look at what is happening in Dafur and in other African countries, we don't charge in and help there, why, because there is nothing in it for invading countries.

Just my humble opinion

I Totally agree KP - there are so many atrocities going on in the world, or have gone on in the past, that no other countries get involved in. Maybe I'm too cynical for my own good, but it seems when wealth, and particularly oil is at stake, the world seems to find a need to get involved - no matter the cost of innocent human lives. Like I said before, I don't think I'm as worldly aware as perhaps I should be. Maybe I see certain things too simplistically - but I'd be interested to keep hearing other's opinions.

No ground troops, which is so nice to see, just a helping hand to get rid of some big issues that are killing lots of civilians.
That's why I, personally, approve of the UN mission. The Libyan people called out for help, they asked for someone to help them. So the UN did after some hesitation.
I wish I knew why the Arab League is now moping around about the attacks. In the news there was some speculation that they want to keep down sympathy for 'The West'. But I don't know.

I also disapprove. I support our armed forces, but believe that there is always a hidden agenda. As CB says OIL.
That's unlikely in my opinion. It's far more convenient to do business with a dictator than with a democracy.

I 100% support our armed forces, and troops, wherever they end up in the world. My heart goes out to the armed services and all their friends and family. One of my big concerns is that politicians come up with a 'plan of action', but don't provide the financial backing. Leaving the men and women of the armed forces to fight a battle without the correct equipment, support and backing - that breaks my heart.

I am not a pacifist.
But I don't 'get' war. Although it may not have that name yet, is that not what this is, and will be called in the future. The war against Libya.

I don't get that there can be rules, or war crimes. Who makes the rules? Who decides the right and wrong? Who decides that it is OK to change the rules when the mood suits?

I am sorry I am being such a nerd, but this is all just beyond my comprehension. How does our leader(s) decide to send the sons and daughters of our nation to fight in a foreign land when it has nothing to do with us... unless CB is right about the oil. Our people will die. Our nation will pay financially. Why can't we just butt out?

There is a long history of many wars and we should learn the lessons of history. We now have enhanced communication in many different forms. Surely weapons should no longer be a means of communication. It makes us no better than the caveman...IMHO

I am scared because now it has started I don't know where or when it will end. Where will it lead?

The war against Libya.
Who is Libya? Gaddafi or the Libyan people? Because the bombings are directed at Gaddafi's militia and the Libyan people explicitly asked for them to happen.

I had this idea that there should be an international law saying that in a hot conflict, everybody willing to die for 'the cause' should meet in a huge stadium. Everyone gets a knive and a gun with three shots, and the party that has survivors gets its way. It would be fair, unexpensive, humane and entertaining if transmitted live with good sports commentators as hosts ô.o

OK, for my sanity I'm opting out of this thread. Ronin47, started this by asking our thoughts. I've given my opinion and don't want to get into a huge discussion.

Cowardice, if you like, don't care what you think. One thing I have learned since dealing with PTSD is do what is best for me. I'll do that and leave the argument/discussion alone.

It is sad that there is such a casual way to which we are kept informed 2:00 minute blurbs on the news... I am not sure if we are supposed to be there or not . I do want to support my Country but they make it harder and harder everyday... Have we become such a shallow society that we do not want to see the real truths that happen in war only the kewl missiles taking off from ships etc. show me the dead bodies on the other end and let me decide if war is good.... .Give me the whole truth is all I am saying stop hiding it... Oh wait is that not why we got out of Vietnam cause americans saw the truths... Just my opinion......... For The Record I do love America I just want to make sure it is around for my kids and eventual grand kids to love it to.....
