@Erics - I think you echo a sentiment many, if not most, Americans feel. They may not agree with all of the specifics, but they share your unease about the current level of divisiveness in the country. They don't feel like they are being heard. Myself, and many people that I have talked with or read about, on many sides, believe the insults and attacks are counter productive.

So many people feel like it is impossible to talk about politics without getting insulted.

It is not actually entirely new at all - politics has always been heated since our nation was founded. Identity politics can get especially heated and personal.

I think we are seeing what tribalism in politics can do - combined with some of the ill effects of social media emboldening idiots who just insult and degrade others. They are a minority but they speak (or rather type) loudly.

All sides have played a role... heck, info has come out that the ads Russia was buying on Facebook were not for or against any one party, politician, or stance - but they took on both sides of many issues. One day, the ads were against immigration, the next day, the ads were for it. One day it was against Black Lives Matters, the next day they bought ads in favor of Black Lives Matters... and etc.

They know what Lincoln himself said so well, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." (Dead Link Removed)

And this is why my heart jumps for joy when good every day folks go out and try to do something kind to help others, regardless of politics, like @leehalf and so many people do every single day.

I'm guessing, but I think it's a pretty safe guess, that most people don't go around only asking for the left or right to donate for hurricane victims only on their side of the political spectrum... When the sh*t hits the fan, people really can and do still see the humanity in each other.

Both the left and the right have become good at talking past each other and throwing insults.

I don't really know the solution...

What I don't understand is why it seems like no matter what you choose, it's impossible to get along - you feel attacked on both sides no matter what, regardless. This is what bothers me and I think bothers most Americans if they're honest about it.

I agree, our government no longer works together for the greater good of all people no matter what people have supported. A house divided falls.

It feels like it's being purposely done to our country by something, or someone... George Soros?
My personal theory is "The One Percent". The powerful have been managing the less powerful for centuries. Using all kind of manipulations. Look at who appears to be "winning".

Here's a way anyone who has internet access can contribute. This outfit is totally legit. They have a lot of interesting stuff going on for anyone interested in being a "citizen scientist". Right now, this project is focused on Puerto Rico.

Three car loads full. My nephew is a Detroit LEO and they took donations for the cause.
While I agree with the heart and compassion behind this act, I question whether or not these items will actually *be able* make it to the intended destination. And *how long* it will take for them to get there. These people have already been living with extreme conditions for weeks. How long could we, in our own communities, comfortably go without clean water?

We have only sent a small fraction of troops, helicopters and other support to Puerto Rico than we sent to Texas and Florida, and only even that small fraction after days after they've suffered so much and so many have already died or are dying. I am just completely horrified and disgusted at how this president doesn't not value brown American lives as much as white American lives.

@Justmehere. Not sure about that. Let me do a lil research.

@She Cat[/USE...

Leehalf, Puerto Rico is an inland, severely vulnerable to this kind of hurricane. I can pray you can find it in your heart to see and understand the total crisis they are going through.

God, I am so upset, I gotta leave.

I think anyone who withholds help for PR is a wicked abuser. That's all I have to say. Hodge out for a while. She is destroyed by this catastrophe and cannot tolerate comments that are not helpful for PR.
