@scout86 I too come from farming ppl. Very elderly now but still doing it. My country cut a deal with the US over steel. It seems we will not go unscathed entirely however bc we have no car manufacturer's here and just about everything else comes from somewhere else. We rely on a lot exporting too.

T took the US out of the Trans Pac., Trade Agreement...I think that's what it is called. So, now it's all being re-negotiated without the US in it. Some will benefit from this but most will not. We, from underneath the world will have an advantage in some near Asian countries but not for around the other side. Freight equals lots of $'s. I guess a few big freight carrier's will be smacking their lips with glee. I cannot think of too many other businesses who actually make stuff, will be feeling lucky with Tariff's.

China and the EU are very rattled indeed by these Tariffs and I suspect there is a lot of diplomatic courier's running to and fro with some big questions in their sealed envelopes. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the various US and foreign entities open them up. I think retaliatory action will be coming soon and nobody is going to like it.

Right now T may be fulfilling a promise to his 'heartland' but I agree with you @scout....wait till they go shopping after the real effects hit the shelves.

Our GDP will undoubtedly drop. I have been watching the stocks rise & drop in the US. Our Banks are heavily invested in your dollar and what it does - as is a lot of the rest of the world. Investor's must have their hands over their mouths from one day to the next. I think protectionism is not a straight arrow or if it is, then it's facing down. :arghh;

Regarding the Wall. I did wonder about ladders, land and water-ways...and my other thought was hooks and rope's...too easy? Doesn't the US have border control points anyway?

I saw T admiring China's Great Wall a while back. He said to a China official, "That's a nice wall". (nice) :hilarious: I thought I was having a 'moment' but it was replayed a number of times. I imagined his mind ticking over with 'my wall is going to be bigger than your wall'... but no we are not in a child care centre sand-pit. Oh well...

I have seen some of the structure 'examples' put forward for discussion and I have to wonder...apart from having to have an army on the US side to stop breaches...the money to build (any of them) - would pay for you all to have a good health plan, education and retirement. Which would benefit everyone... It really is a 'thought bubble' then?

I must admit I worry about all you guys over there. I hear the term 'leader of the free world' and I'm worried. Big red buttons aside. Btw I am not over the moon with politicians in any country. I do question the motives behind anyone wanting to be a politician...anywhere. I would not be one so that leaves the field very wide doesn't it? Your late night comedians are not short of material now but neither are ours:rolleyes:.. Our pollie's are always digging holes for themselves to climb out of too.

Who will be the next Dem leader when it comes time to step up to the mark? Is there a strong Dem., leader waiting?

And just to add some more variation on your country. I read a really good article on Detroit slowly rising from the ashes of the bankruptcy, racial & social problems that hit it so hard. The population has stopped leaving and it's becoming a different kind of city now. Arts, education and other areas are thriving. Ppl are said to be growing fruit and veggies in abandoned allotments. It hasn't recovered fully but the ppl there are staying and fixing things up...themselves. :)

@blackemerald1, I like so much of your post, but what you related about Detroit really struck me as that's my hometown. I don't keep up on the news there as much as I should, but I am so glad to see things are still moving up there. It was always a great city. I'd still live there, and I miss it often, but for hubby being here in another state and also for all the trauma memories from there. Anyway, thank you for that post. And by the way, there are racial problems, but there are also stories of people of all colors being friends. My late BFF was black, and since her passing I'm now closer friends with her kids and sisters. I really love being an auntie to her kids. I've always said if you work or live in Detroit and you don't have black friends, there is something wrong with you.

Detroit is coming back. We finally have a great Mayor and a strong Chief of Police. People are investing and opening new businesses. It's very exciting to see. The downtown area is growing quickly.

They have been clearing out burned out buildings for a few years now. Some streets look abandoned with only a few homes on them. If you own a home you can purchase the abandoned lots next to you for $100. It's incredible.

We have always said if Detroit can come back from the recession the whole country can. The city has seen some hard times but we're determined to thrive.

Don't get me wrong the crime rate is horrible. Gang violence is out of control! We had 15 shootings (one a police officer) and 6 murders over the Holiday weekend. 72 hours. My nephew is LEO and I asked him when he was a rookie if he had to draw his gun yet? He said "every day aunt Luckilee".

Major companies are coming here. The latest I believe is Amazon. We put in a new railway. The waterfront is beautiful. In the summer it's full of life. People from all over come for the free concerts and festivals. J and I get down there once a month and more in the summer months.

The school system is another story. It's so broken it will take a miracle to get it functional again. But were trying!

I grew up in the suburbs but have always loved the city since I was young.

Go Detroit!! Lol

The waterfront is always so beautiful. I love Hart Plaza and the jazz festival on Labor Day. But, yeah, I worry about my black men friends there every day. I just can't imagine how awful it must be to be in their skin and know that there's nothing you can do to prevent a cop from shooting you if they feel threatened, whether it's justified or not. It is just unbelievably horrible. I don't know how my friends keep their good humor and attitudes. I think they must be stronger humans than me.

Good bless Trump! Thanks for supporting US businesses, US workers., US citizens and the US Constitution. The New (Old) World Order is on its last legs. Thank God. Times they are a changin'...the Old Order is rapidly fading. :D

What was so wrong with the old order? The rule of law? The Constitution?
The Rule of Law and the US Constitution have been subverted for a long, long time, at the expense of the basic rights of the American people. Most of the subversion comes from outside the country with the complicity of non patriots from within. :D
