I had to go to the dentist about six months ago to have filling done they could not complete all that had to be done due to the way I felt ur is nearly in tears panicking anxious . I have to go back to get it completed but I am after some tips advice on anything I could do to not react like this . I have been through prolonged complex trauma in a situation that made me feel very trapped for many years . It left me having dissociation and depersonalisation . I gave parts and can experience flashbacks . I did try and work out why I reacted in this way and I did find out it was because my parts felt fearful and chaotic .abd that it pushed me into the past. I have a few ideas but just wondering if any other tools ideas are available . I know that it is important to be grounded but I am putting this off as I really want to ensure I don't react same way again

Antianxiety meds.

Many dentists even specialize in this (using both drugs & VR headsets or movie headsets all the way to full on sedation dentistry)... but most will Rx 1-2 antianxiety meds before an appointment, even if they don’t specialize in anxious patients.

If your dentist is one of the few who doesn’t? I’d recommend either getting a new dentist, or getting meds from your GP or PDoc.

Hello . Thanks for your suggestion . I was referred for a sedation somewhere else but after thinking about it I felt I rather have it completed without sedation . I feel I would rather find other ways or look into other ways . I am not normally a anxious person but this 'majorly pushed me back intst past . I have issues with how my body sometimes feels ur I sometimes feel it feels disgusting . Just wondered when I posted what others would suggest . For example how would others ensure there internal world doesn't go into overwhelm ? Thanks for suggestion about medication

Nobody around here does this and I recently had a painful biopsy same stuff. They are treating me like I'm some kind of problem because I insist they shouldn't be barbarians which they are! Why should you have to grit your teeth or be having panic attacks when you couldn't be sedated?

It's outrageous what they do when you know if they would give you nitrous you wouldn't feel a thing. There is only one dentist around here that will do nitrous and he doesn't take my insurance. I guess it's the state regs. He charges a fortune.
Same thing with the biopsy how about some nitrous, and some pain killers for a couple days after? Makes it SO much easier.
