What Are Your Thoughts On Enhanced Airport Security?

Ahhh I see. Yes that IS an issue. I bet they have some kind of "get out" though. They always do. Somewhere, very discretely will be a little sign saying "If there is any chance that you may be pregnant we do not recommend that you enter the scan thingy" or something to that effect but that still wouldn't help some women.

If you google images for airport body scan it comes up with loads. I'm assuming the people on these images gave their consent for them to be released to the press / internet etc.

They've been on the news here before... its about America making some BS laws that anyone coming into their country must be randomly scanned... when nobody else is making any such demands and happy with the current methods.

America just keeps shooting themselves in the feet with other countries... and then wonder why other countries continue to pull money out of the country and invest elsewhere... stupid decisions.

Literally shooting themselves too.......going over there knowing anyone can hold a gun scares me more than being scanned.
Completely agree. Pure insanity in my mind. I must admit though that when we went over there on holiday guns didn't really cross my mind too much but I think if I lived there I would probably soon loose my naivity regarding guns. Bit of a contradiction in my mind to say that it is ok for anyone to bear arms but also try and be the most security aware country in the world. That may come across as judgemental but guns aren't really something I'm comfortable with at all.

P.S. that isn't meant to be a judgement on Americans as such, just a judgement on a couple of the laws, nor is it meant to offend anyone here so I do apologise if I have worded it slightly bluntly:oops:

We made need better gun control laws, but taking away citizens' right to bear arms is not the answer. The problems come from the criminals who have guns. Even if guns weren't legal, criminals would still get/have guns as they obviously have little or no regard for the law. Gun laws mostly just keep guns away from law abiding citizens that you needn't worry about in the first place.

Not exactly... when you remove guns from a country completely, and control their sale through detailed verification procedures and requirements, you actually remove the entire problem. You can't go to a gun store here and buy guns... nothing. You can't even just go buy bullets. When those facilities are not available, actually criminals tend not to use them because just being caught with them puts them in jail.

Yes, removing weapons doesn't fix criminal behaviour, but it removes a massive threat from society as a whole, especially when police have them and nobody else does.

To get a pistol here, you have to be a member of a pistol club. You have to apply for the pistol and go through ASIO checks, so the same as your FBI. You are then granted a license to buy that weapon. Most people leave them at the shooting club, because its just not worth having them at home with multiple safes for gun, ammo, parts, etc... then police randomly dropping by your house to check their security at any time they desire.

If you fail to turnup to your shooting club to fire the weapon, the weapon gets removed from your possession, hence you no longer have a reason to have a gun as your not using it for sports shooting at a registered club.

Australia has extremely little gun related violence as a result, thus very little deaths due to such things... and I mean little. It is the equivalent of New York city having 10 gun related deaths a year. That is the difference removing them completely has on a country.

If your a farmer then you can be licensed for a rifle, obviously reasons being on a farm for culling, etc... otherwise there is no chance you will get a rifle or be able to hold a rifle at your home without massive required security to be installed first and again, randomly checked on by police at any time.

America is so used to them, which is why as a country they couldn't imagine being without them, because the logic kicks in that criminals will have them... but that's not logical at all, because when you remove them from a country, it means you remove them all, then control the little that are allowed into the country.

The USA will never change though... because the NRA is to rich, to powerful, to far embedded into the countries political system.

The USA as a majority agree that weapons cause more harm than good, but nothing changes!

Crime still happens, but crime is then reduced to bashing, etc... worse case scenario, stabbed, but even knifes are controlled here... though still a problem with teens that they are quickly fixing. The point is, is that you are more likely to live from being beaten up or stabbed, than from being shot. It takes a lot more effort to beat someone physically or stab, than to stand back at a distance and pull a trigger. Put people in both situations, and the majority will steer clear of options 1 & 2, but 3 with a gun is easy... hence why we don't have them in this country.

From what I've seen online, scars are being saved. They showed pictures of the people and next to that their scan.

I'm pretty sure the scan wouldn't bother me. The pat down however, I'm not sure. They go under females breasts, between the buttocks, and up into the groin area until they hit resistance.

I'm sorry, but anywhere else this would be considered sexual assault. There is a video online of them patting down a 3 year old girl and she is SCREAMING for them to stop touching her. It's horrible IMO.

No offense taken here. I also don't like guns. However I have never had someone use one against me in nearly 50 years!
I can't speak for all Americans by any means; but I do know I feel I would NOT want here guns made illegal, just for the fact that I feel that "Here at this point in time" if guns were made illegal, the "criminals' would have no problem breaking the law to have them. The law abiding citizens would NOT have any. Hence my hesitance in making them illegal. I would not want to be around where the only people with them are people causing harm.

If they had never been legal, I would be absolutely fine keeping it that way. I do not, nor do I ever plan on owning a gun. My fear is that it would be used against me, as I fear I would hesitate to use it and it would be taken from me.

This is just my opinion and as I said can't be used to speak for others. It's just so many guns already are illegally in the hands of bad people illegally it would be nearly impossible to confiscate them. The people that obtained them legally by permit would be the only ones authorities would be able to get them from if the laws changed. There would be no record of those who got them without permission. That's where my worry that a law preventing gun ownership would continue to let guns in the hands of criminals and leave law abiding citizens without a means of protection.
