What Did You Eat As A Child?

My parents were too drunk to cook most of the time so we ate a lot of can pasta. Neither my sister or I can even look at it today.

The only good things I can remember is the banana bread mom made. She always used twice the amount of bananas in her receipe. I don't know why she would cook banana bread and nothing else.

I also remember that my father would bring home cheese curds or beef jerky on his way home from work as a treat.

Some do have eyes to see and hearts that hear.

He might have thought I was starving myself, I was too proud to admit to anyone why I didn't have food at lunch very often. I told him I didn't like eating when he started prodding me for why and after that he started forcing me to drink the v8. But it was nice to have someone to care, even though I didn't know what to do with that feeling and felt like I was in trouble every time he did it.

I remember one time, I was in the 6th grade living in a home with my father and his girl friend. I was only there about 4-5 months, but had many bruises. When ask I'd say I fell, but my teacher knew. She went to my house and spoke to my dad's girlfriend. She never hit me again. But then, I didn't stay long either, which was a good thing. I had barely learned how to behave like a human, and with her abuse I was going backwards again. The good thing was, she did feed me and I got to sit at the dining room table with the family.

I'm sorry you went through that growing up. I do know how hard it is when you think you're all alone.

Once, I had placenta stew. I didn't know it was from the neighbor boy's birth. They didn't tell me.

My Mom used to make spanish rice in stuffed green peppers. I hated it then but I like it now.

I am feeling very grateful that my Mom did cook us nutritious, good food. I wish I was able to do the same for my kids every night, but I do try.

My issues weren't from my Mom. I had a teacher who made us eat things she hoped would make us sick, and some kids did. My dad force fed us bizarre things when my Mom wasn't around. He also fed us home 'medication' experiments, drugged us so he could go out partying, and forced us to eat everything on our plates.

Another issue was his rage at the dinner table, and keeping us sitting there for hours while he was at the bar or out cheating. We had to wait for him.

How sad it is that so many kids get abused with food. I hope you all find healing and good health.

Spaghetti oh's! (Back in the day when they were made by Franco-American!) with meatballs or hot dogs!

PB&J! (Peanut butter and jelly....is that a common acronym?) every day for lunch!

Macaroni and cheese, fish sticks, chicken nuggets. Lol, we didn't really eat all that healthy!

Oh, and I loved ice cream sandwiches. Funny, I'm not really an ice cream kind of person.

We had plenty of food. Mum was a good cook.

The problem was we had to eat everything we were given - even if that meant we sat at the table for hours. There was always a big sticky home-made pudding of some sort too. We did not choose what to eat or how much - it was served on the plate.

After eating I was sent outside 'to exercise' because I was so fat!

No wonder I still have hang-ups about food.
