What Do You Do After Saying Hateful Things To Your Therapist?

Therapy is difficult. Choosing to step things up a notch is difficult. Choosing to make yourself vulnerable to someone week after week after week is difficult. Choosing to expose yourself to your own triggers week after week after week when you spend most of your days trying to avoid them is difficult. But I honestly don't think that I would be able to 'fight through this on my own'. I've tried that and it wasn't pretty!

This resonated with me quite a bit. Being vulnerable week after week, facing your worst nightmares week after week, realizing that you depend on that relationship for stability is extremely scary.

Digger1, I think if your intension was to get me to stay in therapy you might have succeeded
My intention was really just to hope that you would take a step back before making any decisions about it :) I do think doing a session next week would be good for you though, if for nothing else than to discuss your reasons for wanting to stop or take a break from therapy with your therapist. :)

I have been quitting therapy for over 2 years now. I have sent my therapist mean emails. When I apologize, he tells me he doesn't take it personally, he views it as symptoms. Therapy provides a safe place to express feelings, including anger. For me, a lot of it was transference. Now I clarify things with my therapist that upset me. It is hard when you have PTSD. I am still afraid he's going to leave, and I have to ask him often if he is leaving. Its all part of the process.
