When Do You Know - Inpatient/intensive Treatment And Disability?

If you have Medicare from being on SSDI, and you are below a certain income point, then you should be getting something called QMB Medicaid that will pay the co-pay or deductible of any Medicare bill in any state, even if Medicaid won't pay. I have Medicare, and I have had three stays in out of patient specialty programs for 5 weeks at a time. My total cost for all three stays combined was less than $1,800. Perhaps it is the QMB that is missing in your case that helped in my case.

And yes, you are right, it is tough to find ways to pay for this treatment. First we survive the trauma, then we survive the broken system of poor resources for good trauma treatment. Its like a job in itself!

Hi @Justmehere

You mentioned utilizing the Dept of Voc Rehab as an avenue for getting training/job placement for a different career. Do you have any personal experience with this and/or additional information? I looked it up online and it sounds like they will help if you are able to establish that you have a disability, but it seems more geared toward those who have been collecting disability because they have been jobless.... not my case at all.

I do think that a switch of career is what's in order for me. I want to do a total career overhaul. But after I'm able to take a break from work and can get my symptoms under control.

You do not have to be on disability to work with voc rehab. Other people qualify as well. Call your state's dept of voc rehab and ask about applying and what is required for eligibility. I would suggest just going ahead and submitting an application and seeing if they do accept you. With a strong letter from your therapist, I bet they would.

Another option is to consider working with a career counselor at a university or college. They gave me great advice about finding a job suited for my PTSD symptoms. Even if you do not live near one, you can call most universities and say you area "prospective student" (which is true even if there is a slim chance of going back to school) and they should be willing to talk with you about it more.
