When Does It Stop????

You are moving forward. I think l had to get a rebuilt starter on one car. Yup, it turned into a money pit. The mechanic told me to lose the car. Ha . Good you are taking care of car because an accident due to faulty car stuff isn't worth it.

Yeah @aut555, Ive only bought cars straight out, never had a car payment, but Ive spent likely as much to fix them over the years.

I swear the next thing I teach myself is how to fix common issues in cars. Car mechanics could take a while but totally worth it.

Yeah, it just gets to a point that its not worth it anymore. I bought the car with a bad key turn thing (forgot what its called) and didnt know. 2 days after buying it and it got stuck and wouldnt move. Had to pay for a new turn one and because the key has a chip it went from a low $100 to over $300.

And then also bought it with a small rusted hole on the top of my radiator. Later there where 3 holes and coolent leaking so bad that it was hard to just drive it to work 8.8 miles one way without it over heating. That was $180.

Theres been a few others but thats the 2 major ones. The guy did not take care of the car as he also sold it to me saying the E-brake didnt work. I found out when i got new back brakes why as that also fixed my e-brake.

In any case. I can breath a little bit as hopefully this will be a starter, do a few other stuff and be out at $150 ish and maybe $200 ish if i need a battery.

My job is still laying off but if i dont have a car to find and go to a job, im sunk.

Wow, really? No bus?

When I lived just outside of Kanas City there were no buses at all. I couldnt believe that no bus routes came outside of Kanas City as its not a rural area, at all.

Here just outside of Orlando Im rather lucky. I live right next to the Sunrail, the train that runs to Orlando and back, and then a great bus route that goes the other way. So if I worked in Orlando I could take the Sunrail and then pick up the bus as theres a bus stop right next to each Sunrail station. And they also are expanding the Sunrail.

So its possible but a pain in the ass and requires so walking so because of chronic pain would have a hard time with that but its possible.

I buy rental cars

Arent rental cars pricey? I looked at one once and it was up there on cost. I havent bought a car higher than $1500 though my next one i want to pay 2 grand to 3 grand if i can to get a much better one.

This car was priced at $1,600. So wasnt worth that. 2001 Chevy Cavilar (finally got out of the 90s) so i talked him down to $1,200 and had to borrow against my 401K along with savings from working overtime got me that much.

Today i have enough saved but with my job being so uncertian i want to hold on to it along with my 401K, that would be my live on money until I found another job.

Today i learned Brighthouse is indeed hiring. Charter recently bought them out and the rumor is they may close the 2 call centers here but they are hiring in both so i dont know.

The brand hasnt changed since the Chater merger and on Charter's site they have all 3 brands (had no clue that included Time Warner).

@lostforgottensoul when my car broke down a couple of weeks ago, I called Enterprise car rental. The price was $250.00 ( which is refundable at the end) plus $149.00 a week, with free mileage. So not bad really, but you need a major credit card, and valid license.

BTW! I've been meaning to ask?!?!?!? STUN GUN! Ever time I even think about it, it giggle... seriously though, HOW did you get that, and aren't they illegal to have??????

My car had a fried smoked starter from trying to start it over and over. The issue is the fuel pump. I knew it was likely the fuel pump because i had to hit the gas a bunch to get it to start when this first happened. But the starter was still fried.

So $260 today (he did the oil change and cleaned the air filer as he verified it started but didnt realize until he tried to drive it that it was the fuel pump).

And he still has the car and will get a cheaper fuel pump tomorrow and so he is estimating that to be $180.

I just got $500 out of the ATM as it will be around that. $500 is a HUGE hit on this possible 'live on' money.

I dont have a credit card nor can I get a credit card without it being secured with a credit score in the low 400s. I do have a debit card but the last I tried they wont take that.

If i need it for a week $150 isnt bad. I have full coverage insurence on this car as its in my dad's name to allow 3 accidents to drop off of my driving record. It has but kept it in his name as full coverage insurence is $60 where liabilty only in my name is more than that; with a now perfect driving record.

I can see the insurence paying for or refunding a rental car if it is in the shop for an accident but would they if its something not related to an accident?

I guess im asking is how is it refundable?

she's in Venice Beach. She likes it better

I dont know anyone besides the retired that like Florida. Maybe compared to Cali but it is the hardest State Ive lived in to stay above water.

The other States that are famous for having a high cost of living have higher wages. My step brother lives in Connecticut and his rent is like $1500 a month but he gets paid around $30 an hour. It evens out.

Florida has a high cost of living but much lower wages then most States.

I lived in KS just outside of Kansas City. Richest and safest county in the State. My rent was $550 a month and I was paid $15 an hour starting pay (for exactly what im doing today).

In Florida my rent is $850 a month and am paid $12 an hour and starting pay was $10 an hour. And $10 an hour is considered "ok pay". Its ridiculous! Its the only State where if you are single you need to work two, maybe three jobs just to stay above water in a crappy apartment.

She's still in Cali.

Oh, sorry about that, theres a Venice Beach in Florida.

The panhandle is a bit different as are places like North Florida on the Florida Gorgia line (and not the band). But most of Florida sucks. I grew up on the gulf coast and still, impossible to live. I left for that reason and lived a total of 7.5 yrs in KS and adored it (and miss it horribly). I made friends. The people are so nice. Just so different in general more than being possible to live on a single income.

Id go back to KS if I could. I fell 3 stories and left with chonic pain (which is why im back in Fl) and the winters would be too much. But would in a heart beat if I could.

Generally, the midwest is more affordable than either coast.
the winters would be too much.
Honestly, you might wanna look at how climate change has affected things. Many parts of the midwest are experiencing much, much milder winters.
