Childhood When Your Single Parent Has Schizophrenia ..

I'm sorry to hear about your experiences with your own parents @Lopezwhere'sthefire[/...

Those stories are familiar to me as well. My mother had some serious paranoia. At times she'd wake us up and load us in the car to move in the middle of the night. That happened sometimes monthly.
As for contact with my mom, I am emotionally detached from her quite thoroughly, but I am her sole family in the area, so I keep an eye on her. She's mostly regressed from the lifetime of heavy antipsychotic drugs to a docile state. It wasn't her fault, so I take some care of her. Just the right thing to do I think. My dad on the otherhand, was never around to save me, but I have done my part to establish some kind of relationship for his last few years. I can tell he's ashamed for being unavailable to me growing up. I also feel bad for him and just interact when I can on the phone.

I can relate to your post in a lot of ways. I sensed there was something wrong with my mother's sense of reality from a pretty young age too and like your mother she was drawn to esoteric things and strange religious believes.
