My Mother made my Christmas!
She is the last of the orginal 7 children of her family. Everyone is gone. So this year, I got a beautiful silver photo album and had copies made of her most treasured family pictures. I managed to locate many photos from a cousin that mother had never seen and I created a family album.
In there I put photos of her Grandparents she never knew, pictures of her parents as young adults and the wedding photo of her parents. I also included a photo of the family home where she was born, and I put it together in chronilogical order. Well, you get the picture.
Giving that to her and watching her reaction "was" my Christmas. Mother is now 86. She has had no family since the mid 80's when her last sibling died and her mother passed away when mother was only in her early 40's. This Christmas I guess you could say I gave mother her family. I just get all warm and fuzzy every time I think about how it made her feel. The look on her face when she opened the gift is one I will never, ever forget. The way she holds the album and looks at it is a vision to see.
Yes, I am patting myself on my back. But if you could sense how much this gift means to my mother you would understand.
