Sorry one more thing. The biggest thing that concerns me is why does he not care about how his actions must effect you. I think in this way he is demonstrating his character.

If he does have a gun maybe you shouldn't be alone with him especially so close to the end of the relationship.

I have to disagree with calling a suicide prevention helpline. I think that keeps the issue with you. The only action you need to take is to report it to the police.

The only reason I suggested this route is because they deal with this kind of thing every day and I have no doubt one of their first suggestions for her would have been to call the police. Because it was suggested by skilled professionals in this field, it would help remove some of her guilt for involving the police. It's hard to call the police on someone that you care about, but yes, honestly, that is really who needs to get involved at some point....hopefully soon for all involved.
