Will Meds For Adult Adhd Worsen Ptsd & Bpd?

I know that Ritalin can have a bad affect with someone who is BPD. Some medication for depression with work badly and cause mania episodes. There are so many mediations, types, dose's... For all 3 of those. That's really something your spouses doctor should be trying to find out. Maybe by working with the more serious first? Also alternative to medication might be an option...if lets say the ADHD is mild.

The expecting from your spouse thing...I don't understand. Having Bipolar, PTSD or ADHD is no excuse for bad behavior.

Could you explain what you mean?

Take care of yourself

Hi.

I have ADHD and PTSD. ADHD makes it difficult to concentrate on things. The meds for ADHD are supposed to help you concentrate- however if he has recurrent flashbacks- the ADHD meds can make it so that he focusses more intently on PTSD and his flashbacks. For me, my psych took me off of my ADHD meds for a while- 3 days, and then put me on my PTSD meds. Then he put me back on my ADHD meds as well. The flashbacks got worse without the meds for the three days, but they got better when he put me on the PTSD meds.

Talk to the Psych. The ADHD meds might be making the flashbacks worse, but if you talk to your doctor about this and get his opinion I'm sure that things will be fine afterwards.

I have ADHD and to be honest I think being on meds is way better- I take dexedrine and I went off of it for 4 years-- it was a bad decision. I went off Effexor as well and I took up yoga but I just wasn't functioning. ADHD is a serious biological deficit: poor planning skills; troubles focusing; impulsivity; hyperactivity or not being able to get going- period are just some of the issues. Personally, I think PSTD would get worse because not only are you dealing with all of the grief etc., of PSTD you would also be dealing with the issues related to ADHD. Dexedrine grounds me--period. It helps me focus, concentrate, plan, manage things. Its no ta panacea but without it I am either running all of the time; or sitting on my couch crying. There doesn't seem to be an in between! Peace.
