Withdrawing For Periods Of Time

I've noticed that, no matter what/who it is, I tend to get attached only to withdraw briefly, then repeat. When I withdraw, it feels like everything shuts down, including my emotions. I know this isn't fair to my friends and family but I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone else experience this? If so, how do you deal with it?

Very unhelpful response here sorry, but yep, me too. No idea how to fix it. Maybe tell yourself to have restricted contact when you feel the need to isolate? For example, send everyone a text each day to say that you're okay and you love them until you feel like you can be actively involved again?

Just like Ice-Fire I cannot be very helpful, but know you are not alone. I isolate plenty! For me, my family and friends have learned to live with it I suppose because its been happening for many years. I do hope that you find a way to be of self help so you will feel better.

I do the same thing, it seems like a common theme here that we need extra time alone. For our own reasons? To reflect or decompress, whatever. I don't know but its okay to have alone time. If I don't get enough I feel too stressed. Maybe say to family/friends you don't know why you do it but you need too? I'm still trying to work it out ! All the best to you :-)

Isolation is one of the coping mechanisms people do with PTSD. I do it and others do to. I find it helpful I recognize it when I am doing it. I try not to but recognize its ok to fail a little and then sometimes I just want to be alone. A side note: sometimes I hate being alone with myself if that makes any sense.
