I think Nicolette wants us to be more aware of the problems that languages can have, Am I right? To show how, like James B. said, how if we re-read something carefully, it can mean something different then when we first read it.This thread is in the Chit-Chat section, and should be fun not serious, which is why its here. It should remain light and carefree. Be funny and playful. I hope I understood it correctly.



I can't think of anything. I love MASH, and Margret just said " You people Stink!" Which is double meaning, she doesn't mean that they smell, she means that they are doing badly...Lame I know! That's all I could think of. lol

Ok, words with doube meanings (slang) - "pooped".

Check it out, I did a web search on this, homonyms, right? Ok, well there seems to be some confusion out there is "web land", cause I swear one of the sites listed homophones (words that sound alike, but have different meaning) instead.

Or do I have this all wrong? LOL! Jeepers, if old age were'nt enough...I got challenges folks...help an old man out will ya?

I remember as a student being so shocked when an American tourist took it upon themselves to complement my 'fanny' years ago - same word but with rather different meanings in the US & UK!

Billion is an interesting one too - in the UK we used the word to describe a million million, where the US varient is for a thousand million (though we're moving of to the US way slowly but surely now).
