News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

For those who have seen Chris Cuomo, he's a CNN reporter that's been talking about his experience with the virus. I get what he's trying to do and respect him for it. I worry about that it could lead to confusion. He talks about "this virus" when he's naming his symptoms. Someone could easily think they don't have it because there symptoms don't match. It's like the thing with people losing their sense of smell or taste. It's been big on the news. Yeah, that happens but it's about 60% of people according to a British study. So again, people can now decide they don't have that.

1.) An abundance of caution.
2.) Basic hygiene.
3.) Pets are a surface that can hold virus and transmit to others.
4.) There is no evidence pets can catch it and become sick, otherwise many pets would have become sick, but this is also a very new situation and virus that is mutating.

More info:

SARS-CoV-2 in animals, including pets

Cats can catch it but not dogs. Tigers and lions caught it in a zoo in NY after someone with it that didn’t show symptoms gave it to them.

So in respect to animals catching the virus it seems they can but there simply isn't enough known to know how, why & what animals.

Tiger dx covid19

And.. remember as far as science is thus far able to determine - this came from an animal.

If bats were the primary host for covid19 (and I'm not saying that as fact) - there has already been examples of deadly viruses spreading from bats (fruit bats in particular) to horses to humans to dogs. Hendra virus?

Dead Link Removed

So yeah as JMH said, an abundance of caution.

ETA: sorry @Rainman8772 - cross posted. :)

My county’s (not country, btw, county) infected persons rate jumped up about 1500% this past week — presumably because of the increase in testing kits, but maybe not — a lot of people here are dying. I had to stop browsing Facebook today (I’ve never been on Facebook this much in my entire life...) because my friends’ father just died from it, as well as another’s best friend who was about my age.

I see the community taking all the biggest precautions possible, and that is fabulous. Even the ones who keep claiming it’s a hoax are now having to take it seriously (unfortunately some found out the hard way, but many didn’t have to and that she great). Neighbors calling/texting asking if we’re good. The Methodist church I normally do yoga at gave me a few boxes of kosher matzah for Passover. :)

The grocery store I went to last had sanitized carts in a labeled section, signs around the store reminding people not to touch their phones, etc. Only 15 people were allowed inside, so I had to wait outside for a while.

The fine for going outside non-essentially is now at $2500, not $50, and jail time is now 11 months to one year (it was 30 days previously). No one has wanted to violate that, though, that I know.

Have y’all had cats that wanted to be outside? I’ve been worried about mine. I’m keeping him inside often and keeping him in the yard when he sees outside. Troubling to know he might be susceptible to something though.

The facts for this are just scary, to be honest. Talking with people locally, discussing that fact that everyone / near everyone, will actually get this before a vaccine is developed, many just don't want to believe it.

The experts themselves admit, the infection numbers could be 5x or 10x more than they have in every country, knowing the asymptomatic persons will never know they had it, and are theorised to be the majority of infected. They're just really dealing with those who display symptoms and trying to do it in some time based manner to keep more people alive by having medical support intact.

People are struggling with this reality. More don't need to die, yet more will die. The entire aim of all countries right now is to control the infection rate so hospitals can keep more alive by providing proper care. There are some who don't like that reality.
