My county’s (not country, btw, county) infected persons rate jumped up about 1500% this past week — presumably because of the increase in testing kits, but maybe not — a lot of people here are dying. I had to stop browsing Facebook today (I’ve never been on Facebook this much in my entire life...) because my friends’ father just died from it, as well as another’s best friend who was about my age.
I see the community taking all the biggest precautions possible, and that is fabulous. Even the ones who keep claiming it’s a hoax are now having to take it seriously (unfortunately some found out the hard way, but many didn’t have to and that she great). Neighbors calling/texting asking if we’re good. The Methodist church I normally do yoga at gave me a few boxes of kosher matzah for Passover. :)
The grocery store I went to last had sanitized carts in a labeled section, signs around the store reminding people not to touch their phones, etc. Only 15 people were allowed inside, so I had to wait outside for a while.
The fine for going outside non-essentially is now at $2500, not $50, and jail time is now 11 months to one year (it was 30 days previously). No one has wanted to violate that, though, that I know.
