Hi Everyone!

I am surviving with PTSD and also happen to be an artist with some success. During most of my forty something years, PTSD has gotten the best of me in my personal and professional life. My PTSD was preventable as it was domestic and sexual abuse as a child. I was tortured as a child by my birth mother. My father was molesting me by the time I was two. In foster care at the age of ten, I was yet again molested.

All of these were preventable. I believe the key to ending the cycle is education combined with the harshest punishment possible. I mean is it really "just", to see someone convicted of shaking a child to death, receive twenty years?

I have to do something to help end child and domestic abuse.

I have searched for a camp for PTSD survivors and the problem I found was that they were predominately sponsored by fundamentalist churches. They don't exactly exude tolerance to those who have had their sexual orientation messed up, from the abuse they survived.

I won't give up and have some awesome support. I just know now that I cannot let my own PTSD, cause me to crash and burn. That comes from being trained as a child and teen that I wasn't worthy of "success". My PTSD seems to cause self destruction but this time, people who love me, are helping me keep it in check.

I know that there is a large percentage of PTSD survivors who are also artists of one sort or another. I believe that the arts can help some survivors heal.

I would like to see a conversation revolving around whether or not people feel that art helps heal, as well as whether a camp for survivors, could help.

Whatever your story, please don't give up! There are people whom you have not even met as of yet, who truly care about you.

Peace, love and hugs to you!

welcome to the forum, you will find some support here as other members have had similar life experiences. This forum will help you through the time you find a camp

Welcome to the forum, Lethom.
I too have CPTSD from childhood abuse (psychological & emotional) I have never tried art therapy but my daughter-in-law who is a childrens CPN uses it with her clients & sees some amazing results.
Good luck in your quest, I look forward to reading more on this interesting therapy.

Hi Lethom,

Welcome to the forum!

Your post was very inspiring. I am finding myself drawn to activism as a way to prevent domestic violence and child abuse. However, not having an artistic bone in my body, I will be fighting at a grass roots legislative level. (I should cut myself some slack and recognize the written word is an art form.)

Love your positive attitude.

Hi Lethom,

You have a wonderful idea!
At this time, I couldn't go to an artist's camp, although I know I must do art as a part of my healing and life.
I'm just so blocked and have no safe place to do it, that I can't seem to move on it.
I'd love to get unstuck!

Warmly,
Deer

I am totally working on an arts festival this winter, hopefully and it includes an art auction. I would love to have a camp for PTSD and CPTSD survivors but cannot do it alone. If you need help getting your art seen, I can offer a web page for your bio etc. Beyond that, I would really love to have some arts available for CPTSD and PTSD survivors.

The main goal right now for me, seems to be the arts event next winter and keeping the spotlight on the discrimination, stigma, name calling and violence and how together, we can change the way American's view mental illness. It's a disease that you cannot catch from a hug!

I am always here at least every few days so if you need someone to talk to or, if you want to be a part of a holiday charity arts festival and auction, please let me know!

Any help with making this plan (dream), a reality? IHAVEFoundation.org and it stands for: International Hate and Violence Education Foundation

Peace, love and hugs!

I seem to keep coming back to a camp for PTSD and CPTSD children and adults. I know it's a huge dream but I keep coming back to it. I even have a major American Icon available to help but cannot do anything yet until I figure out what needs to happen. I would love some input from peers here. My idea is an art auction to benefit the creation of a camp like I mentioned. People donate art etc and it all gets auctioned for this. I have had an overwhelming amount of people stating that they would attend the camp. It's big, but I have never done anything small! And of course I am totally being careful as I am hearing horror stories of abuse and dealing with my own CPTSD and Dissociative Disorder, so I have some buttons I have to watch for being pushed. Peace, love and hugs!

I would feel terrified at the thought that maybe since we all suffer from PTSD that some personalities would collide against each other. This comes from being in a relationship with my former b/f and I both having PTSD. But there were cultural differences as well with him being European and I born on American soil.
