News Would You Consider This Inappropriate For A Ptsd Support Group

It's self-defense training. Now I get it, and the pic makes more sense. Although it is disturbing, it's a reality check - it happens all too often, in fact, and it could happen to me. But it must be very triggering for someone who has been through that kind of thing.

Just noting that the owner of the site says she has PTSD, so you'd think she'd understand. I left a small message where I originally found the message but I haven't heard back. Basically I wanted to know if I should say something as I feel terrible over it. I understand entirely the purpose, I just found it all very disturbing and am very shaken. Thanks everyone for letting me know it wasn't/isn't just me.

I honestly think people are over-reacting to it. An image is a depiction of the crime. Should we stop the news on TV as well? If you have to depict a crime, then unfortunately an image is not going to be nice. The image fits the topic and description written.

The world doesn't stop because you don't like something.

I agree with Anthony. It's a picture, it's appropriate for where it is, being a PTSD support group and self defense. I honestly would be somewhat surprised if there wasn't anything like that on a website like that. They could put up a safe picture of a field of sunflowers, but that wouldn't fit the topic would it?

Well I didn't message them anyway. I so rarely have a response so negative to anything like this, whether an over-reaction or not, this set me off to massive degree and upset the balance on a severe scale for several days. I hadn't the guts and I'm sure it's a personal reaction. Though many may have similar personal reactions. To be honest it's messed me up enough that I just want nothing to do with it but then again I understand that the image held several triggers personal to me.

I never would have expected a sunny field image, of course that's out of place, nor did I ever imply that was what I expected - there is a vast difference between the two. Coincidentally I found the image of a swimming cat oddly out of place and the blog article about a tree odd.

I looked at this yesterday and honestly felt nothing. I don't feel it's inappropriate in the context that it's set.

My PTSD stems from being grabbed from behind, and raped with a knife held at my throat, but this image didn't trigger me, or come across as inappropriate. I guess we all have our own triggers. Maybe 2-3 years ago, it would have upset me, but not now.

This image set off some "mini flashes" for me as well. What I call mini flashes are just quick visual flashback stuff. I'm not saying I don't get them all the time but yeah. Now I know to avoid that site. I was lynched and violent neck stuff is hard for me. Even writing that was hard for me.

Even though one of my traumas has some elements of that picture, it didn't effect me in a bad way.

It seemed too unrealistic and quite cold, and it was about self defense.

I think perhaps different things effect different people. And that's not really the site making a poor choice. There are pictures that members here use that I find more disturbing. But of course, the member gets something positive out of sharing it.

Take care of yourself if you are affected. But I don't feel it's really the picture.

I thought the whole site was not very well put together. I would instead use photos and/or videos of empowered persons knocking the "hitmen" on their a$$.
