Some angles of light are just terrifying.

I seriously thought that only I was bugged by certain things like this.
It's bizarre some of the things that I see that just set off that "yikes" sensor...

For me it's certain types of light outside too. No idea why. And sometimes certain humidity.

I was talking with my T the other day, and I was telling her how slow movement would set it off, she was like "mimes?" (dying laughing here) and I found it really hard to describe what I mean. There was an animated gif posted in a thread the other day that did it.

I am curious as to why these certain, out of the ordinary things, do this to us.

Anything out of the ordinary will make me I guess the word is hypervigilent. If it's not in the norm... My Spidey senses go nuts. But as far as a full out reaction it has to be fairly specific and some i have no idea why

Your mind somehow connects those things to the trauma. What was the lighting like during your trauma? I bet I can guess.

And sometimes certain humidity.

Humidity makes me happy: it tells me where I am. That & scents in the air.

When anonymous PTSD forums assist you more than the therapists you've paid for it.

(But I suspect that one is on me, because I'm hella more open/honest in semi-anon settings than face to face, unintentionally and not.)

When your therapist gives you homework that is to take time to think about the seriousness of a specific trauma.

When you think about a trauma that was life threatening and even after all these years you still have a hard time calling it what it actually was.

When it took you 10 months to stabilize, 3 months to do a "trauma inventory" that is supposed to happen in 1 session, and then you complete 10 weekly prolonged exposure sessions ...

And then worry about what comes next. Will she abandon me? Can I manage to go back to every other week, or longer? ***shakes fist at sky and shouts "Damn HMO, damn you to hell!***

When you love and fear having the kids over, for the same reason. They're so little. They are adorable, and I love that age. I love watching them learn and being part of their lives. And they're so little. So damn breakable. So innocent, it breaks my heart and makes me cry.
