You Know You Have PTSD When...

You know you have PTSD when...

When someone uses the word grounded- "I grounded my 16 year old because she crashed the car" "This flight is grounded until further notice because of the fog." you immediately think of it in the context of PTSD- and so when people are so upset, you don't understand why- because isn't it a GOOD thing the plane didn't have a flashback?

When someone uses the word flashback- your anxiety immediately goes up- when it's on T.V, used several times in a lesson (stupid English), it doesn't matter where or when, all hell breaks loose for you.

This, definitely! I've actually had to drop English this year due to it being too triggering. It was my best subject too lol.

Ummm... That's not very encouraging for me. D: That's my major. I want to be a librarian.

You know you have PTSD when you look over your syllabus the week before classes start- not to know what you're reading, but to see if anything will be triggering so that you are forewarned. (I've been doing this since grade 12. Man I'm scared for my second children's lit class on May 17th. "Puritan sermons and treatises on child rearing." and the 29th: "The Victorian cult of the child and it's cultural implications." and July 12th: "The suffering child as a national figure.")

And here I was thinking reading kids books was going to be fun and that this course was going to be light! Stupid Jen.:notworthy::oops: Bring on the Emotional Flashbacks summer school!

When all your friends DO because they think it's funny. (And you don't want to tell them why you do that.)
Yesterday at work, one coworker called my name unexpectedly, and my reaction was::eek: I literally jumped up a foot. He was like, :O_o: "Is everything alright?" I said yes, and had to add "I have an exaggerated startle response because I suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder." He was like, "sorry..."

Totally know how that feels!

You know you have PTSD when your children start mentioning how Harry Potter has a trauma. :O_o:

You know you have PTSD when you feel you are maybe getting better and more stable after an enormous crisis but can't really believe it, and then you think maybe in a few weeks you should start looking for a job, instead of getting written off sick by your doctor, because you feel guilty for getting unemployment benefit. But are you are scared of the idea and also attracted to it at the same time, so you spend lot's of time thinking about it and not knowing if you are really ready yet.

Hmmm...I think we should have a "You know you are getting better when" thread...!

When this is your entire graduation party - and you're happy!
