It is a good idea to avoid wink faces or any other questionable emote. Text based communication is easily read into because there is a lack of body language.

When responding to email or even IM best to act professional. This doesn't mean one can't never make jokes at work or have fun. Just that they be done in good taste (and rethought multiple times over before even making it, especially text based). Probably best to leave the jokes to closer colleagues and the break room.

Back in the day.....hahaha I say this as I'm not that old!......back in the day a wink wink nudge nudge wasn't all that sexual.

But whoa now along comes the world of texting and a wink now carries the unfortunate implication of something sexual.

I'd leave out ;-) and "wink" from anything professional. people are just weird.
