Checking messages during group?

That's pretty unprofessional.

I'm not sure why people feel a need to be connected 24/7 like that, especially when there is no need most of the time. I mean 99.99%++++++ of texts are of the non emergency variety, even for therapists like her. (And in a real emergency you call 911anyway.)

I know! It's not on silent so you can hear her phone ding with an incoming textand out of the corner of my eye she checks it-sometimes responds . It's sad.

I know she means well but it feels like a gab session and the other participants have been with her for years. I mean my t is on vacation and I thought she would have offered to see me to get to know me more for support group purposes. It's just frustrating, everything about it.

My advice would be to get in touch with your local NAMI chapter and find a skills-based group.

Or, ask this therapist to switch to skills training.

She took a copy of my insurance card so I think my insurance is-I haven't had a statement yet.

It's a group that a therapist put together. About 3-5 of us attend when it's scheduled

The reason I refused my T's suggestion that I do group therapy, was because I do not communicate my needs well in group settings. I think a skills based group setting could be possible as it's more directive and wouldn't be as triggering. I'd suggest building on one to one therapy initially before you're ready for a group setting of any kind. The fact that you're easily triggered into feeling suicidal is a red flag. I'd rather waste my time, energy and insurance by sitting ruminating tbh!! And I'm sorry but I cannot believe that she has not been reported! My T got a phonecall from a colleague during a session recently and quickly redirected it, apologising profusely. At the time I was completing a test for her so I would have understood if she actually went out and took the call. But actually replying to texts during group work is ridiculous.

You only keep affirming common-sense here... this is not a group therapist who knows what they're doing.
