We have had various threads on endearment and affection here...I am adding to it now. Sorry I need to do something warm and fuzzy.

I call my dog honey chops (and babygirl)...sometimes.
She just knows what to say....lol... yeah, that would be cool wouldnt it a talking dog!!

I mean she just knows...to stay by me or whatever she just knows...hence honey chops...the sweetest dog in the whole wide world. Also poochie and well you get the idea

It used to be sweet-chops...because her breath was dog-breath, strange that huh?And also because she would slobber me and it was sweet.... But I heard my ex call her that one day and it put me right off. so honey chops it has kind of stayed.

and my son calls her "chubbs" cos she is a little like a bear, a chubby and cuddly bear.

My son also calls me old woman...and i know I'm not alone in that nick.
I call him tiger and sometimes sweetchops-but that tended to be when he was giving me grief and I wanted to let him know that it wasn't all that sweet but I still loved him...it tends to be something I just say now when we are both in the kitchen cooking...it doesnt get said a lot I just remember saying when he was up from Uni last

I also call an old friend of mine tiger depending on his day...and what he's saying, doing or feeling. But only because I have known him for over 20 years...he calls me stuff I cant repeat here...and sometimes honey...which is kind of nice.

Now I have to say that sometimes these nicks or terms of endearment are different and maybe even I will say these things to other people.
So it isnt that I am thinking of my dog when I call someone else sweetchoops, or my son if I call them tiger...it just seems to be an extension of endearment and comforting, probably more to me...but I have been called somethings here and it has made me smile, its felt good.

I have been called hun here and I have called people babe...and it does tend to be dependant on the person and how we converse. And the context always...

So I am wondering if anyone would like to share. What are your nicks, those you give to others and just how come?

How do we explore affection and friendship with other people through names and stuff....
(...and maybe what happens when it isn't ok...so now would probably be a good time for those I have called babe to have a go if they want LOL)

I used to call my dog chopsy...but my brother was none too happy...I didnt know he called his baby that! oh, and sweetchops!

I call my husband "My love", or hun.

I call my little sister May, or Babe. Her name is Machala (pronounced Makayla) Sometimes I call her Machaladon...lol because her middle name is Dawn, Machala Dawn, but I think it sounds like she's a dinosaur. (you can't tell I love her much can you?)

I call my cat Lupish --Lu, Lu Bucket, Loopy, Bub, Bubby, My Love, Mr Tipsy (because his full name is Lupish the Tipsy), and when he is pissing me off, it is aways " HEY JACKASS!"

I call my cat Zaira- Zeezee because she is just way to immature for Zaira...although now I just mostly call her Bee Beep. Or Idiot...she gets that one a lot.

I call my brother Dixson-Weeble though I don't remember how or why that one started...

I think that is it for me.

I don't have many nicknames, though I used to be Dodi..because my brother couldn't pronounce my name. My husband always calls me Beautiful when he e-mails or texts me though, and I just think it is the sweetest thing...he always has done too, he came up with that one on his own :)

Cute thread, fin.

Thanks

I adore coming up with nicknames for my dogs.

Frankie has earned the monikers Frankenstein, Monster, Frankmeister, Commie Dog, Furball, Fuzzy/Fluffy Mutt, Muttly, Nutbar, Buddy and Pupsel

Maddie answers to Rott 'n hound, Little Girl, Cuddle Bug, Snooper, and Maddiekins

OK, I'll join in the fun. I call my cat Ruf (sounds like "roof"), short for Rufus P. Williger. Also call him "Squib" a lot, though I'm not sure what that means ;P Or Rufus the Dufus. No, actually I've never called him that, but I can't believe I only thought of that now ;P

My favorite name growing up was "Cragg Face". Not that I loved the name so much, but the guy who gave me that nick (my buddy Darren, also known as "Darwood") would roll the "r" in Cragg, and bark out the word "face" like a drill sargeant. I'm not sure I found this particularly endearing at the time, but it sure do make me smile now thinking about it. ;)

Thanks for the thread Fin

Hey Cragger, your cat's nickname would probably endear both of you to any Harry Potter fans you meet (in the books a Squib is a witch or wizard with no magical abilities. Hated the series but as I had to read all 7 books aloud to my ex's alters I learned the mythology whether I wanted to or not).

Frida, I didn't know that re: Harry Potter. I've never seen or read the stories. Now, the Lord of the Rings, that's different...

At least now I know my cat has no magical powers - damn!! ;P

My cat has magical powers :)

Cragger, you should try reading Harry Potter. If you liked Lord of the Rongs, you might like Harry as well. I personally like him much better.

I've heard people say the same, they liked Harry better. But what I like about Lord of the Rings is that there is a whole psych-drama to it, the story of redemption if you like. Harry seems more fantastical, but that's just my impression. (Ya, like L of the R's is verbatim reality ;)

I call my wife love, my beloved, my pecan pie, my granulated sugar, my cherry pie, my maple syrup, and sometimes we get carried away with the sweet terms and call each other molasses and sorghum. Wink.

In Farsi a common term of endearment is kuchulu, and it has to be said all drawn out. "Kuchuluuuuu!!!" Another one is jigari (which incidentally literally means liver). Or you can just add -jan to any nickname, so I would be shamsi-jan. But that last one is more generic, still sweet though.

This thread makes me smile.

shamstalat

Oh yeah, I forgot one. I also call my cat "Squirrel bait" a lot. Let's just say the squirrel's had a ball messing with his head when he was a kitten. It was hilarious!!! ;P

thought I would dip back and see...loving all the names and connotations behind them...
thankyou Craggs again...Squirrel Bait love it...
Shamstalat love the references to the sugar and sweet stuff

I have another...I call my dog sometimes... "Nose", because she can always find something....amazing sense of smell.
She injured her nose a little while ago and took the top of it-digging with it...almost all healed up now. Nose all better now...cuddlly fur ball...
It is like she is a nose with a dog attached hence "hello Nose...."

oh and like you Craggs with the Rufus-Dufus...I used to call my old cat "Frinks-y-Dinks", his name was Frinks and... well.. you get what I did there.

Steve gets called Dufus a lot also...or Wombat....and like Luthien but instead of Jackass its Plonker-because he's just a daft cat... and like Los Frida...he is sometimes The Stevemeister

Craggs... does Rufus ever disappear behind your sofa/chair and "drill for oil"?
