Body Scan

Has anyone ever done a body scan in therapy ? If so- How have you handled it?
(Therapist has you focus on different parts of body and how it feels-foot, ankle, knee, leg, hip, stomach etc etc)
 
I used to freak out! I do not close my eyes when doing it. I try my best to stay focused but allow myself permission to know that it's okay if my mind wanders, I can just bring it back to the body scan. It just took practice for me to accept trying it. I prefer something called healing light which goes through and relaxes each part of the body with light.
 
I too used to freak out!! We worked for a long time just to get to the point where I'd allow T to even try and walk me through the exercise. We failed a lot at first, took months really. Now we just asked me a quick question or makes a statement regarding my distressed look. Or he asked me to please take a moment and notice anything happening in my body....

Two weeks ago, I yelled "I DON'T NEED TO NOTICE ANYTHING, IM VERY AWARE IF HOW I FEEL!"
 
I can't do a self-scan...T still has to be touching me in order for me to bring awareness to a body part. That's been one of the best meditations and grounding work we've done. i love table-time...and my ability to feel specific parts of my body is so much better now.
 
I do this all the time. I really believe in the importance of the mind-body connection
I have never had problems with this as I think it is important to communicate within yourself for healing
I hope it goes well for you this time around and that you can go into it open minded x
