Emerg Services Confusion Over The Hate Of Police By Some Veterans?

Ka-9

Confident
In my humble, lowley opinion..you get what you asked for. I was stupid enough to join the police, so I don't bitch and moan about the decision. Now in hindsight, I wouldn't have wasted a second- but no one held a gun to my head, so I eat it like a big boy.

Watching these few combat veterans on CNN today, ball licking Colin Kaepernick, while calling all police pigs.....puzzles me. A spoiled, retard quarterback, who was nuthugged through high school, college, and his adult life has earned gratuitous respect as a hero....for playing games and swimming in cash and women? While the men and women who serve every nightshift in shithole cities, protecting all the families here, are all pigs?

Maybe I just need to vent here beause my head literally feels like it's going to explode, but as a guy who served as a lowley frontline cop, volunteer firefighter, and humble reserve military guy, I find it just the slightest bit offensive considering I would never judge a guy/gal in a heavy combt zone....being as I have no f*cking clue, and didn't earn that particular t-shirt.

For the record, the closest I came to dying, was getting trapped in a fire, while serving as a cop, and being stupid trying to be a hero. I got rescued by firemen, so, I tend to appreciate all my fellow emergency service workers....military or otherwise.

1 tour overseas, 3 tours overseas, 15 years policing, 35 years policing. I didn't realize there was a priority on sacrafice, but again I'm slow.

Ka-9, I am a retired U.S. Marine and a retired firefighter (not that, that makes my opinion count) but I tend to agree with you on this one. I did a little statistic searching after reading about this jerk-off and found some interesting facts. Fact 1) in 2015 only 990 police shooting resulted in fatality. Fact 2) there are over 1.1 million full time police officers employed in the U.S. Fact 3) that is 1/10th of a percent of officers that fatally shot a suspect the very very very slim minority. Fact 4) over 12,000 civilian on civilian murders were caused by gunshot wounds in 2015 (and I'm sure this number would exponentially increase if it weren't for police officers on the street).

Conclusion: If cops really wanted to kill minorities they would just sit back and fail to do there job, as we seem to be doing a pretty good job of killing each other. Also, the media has a clever way of telling a portion of a story to put a spin on it, selling a certain agenda, and instilling hysteria among the people.

f*ck thanks man..I think i just needed a quick shot of vitamin sanity, seriously I appreciate that.

For the record I am 190% pro military. I have great friends who went, I chose not to, I was already in a specialty unit and had my own obligations, but I never thought anything less than 100% respect. Up here at least.... you carry a gun, hose or trauma bag? You're f*cking family.

This Ranger today made me want to vomit- literally. I trained with K9 and Tac guys from LA to Chicago to Minnesota. Many of those luntics ALSO served overseas, while full time policing.

I agree with you for the most part, and I hate when people try to claim all cops are bad. But on the flipside of that coin, I worked with the police in Chicago for years, and while some of those guys were absolute saints, and much better people than I could ever be, there were also some really awful cops who abused their power. Who were overtly racist, who picked fights with people for no reason, who beat people for no reason, etc. So I feel like this is one of those issues where both sides are actually right: Yes, there are racist cops out there who abuse their power, and that should stop. But no, not all cops are bad and spreading the idea that cops are the enemy is not only disgusting, it's also flat-out ignorant.

Hey, I hated several cops I worked with- I still do. There are absolutely retarded cops I agree Casey, like any faction.

I can imagine no one more retarded than a delusional Ranger blabbering about policing on CNN because he's eternally enamoured with his own greatness. That's like me blabbering about what a ferocious Chesty Puller I'd make, storming some trench, with a K-bar in my mouth, and a spare grenade clenched between my rock hard ass cheeks. I'd feel like a f*cking tool.

Unless you've done it, you should shoulder some humility, is my philosophy, but what the hell....he can enjoy his autographed Kaepernick jock and sniff it every time he feels hardcore, whilst reading his own novel.

I'm going to remain neutral on this, as I'm not a cop or veteran, but...

I know a foster parent who was both a police officer and in the military, had 2 one year tours in Iraq. At the age of 29, he quit being a police officer, and hates the military. He said he couldn't stand the racism, sexism, and bigotry in both the military and the station, and people abused their power. He said joining the military/police force was the worst decision of his life. He's a jeweler now, and a foster parent. He wanted to help out the world, so now he fosters teens who are about to age out of the system, so they have someone to turn to in their adulthood.

Once again, neutral.

Well I see self-righteous i.e. "worship me because I served in the military" bumper stickers but I never see any such sentiment related to being a cop. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that there is a facet of veterans who looks down on cops because of the incorrect assumption (that is held by much of society-----to be fair) that nothing could ever be as "bad" as going to war overseas. In this sense, perhaps, some vets feel superior to cops. This country carries the idea that all military must be respected no matter what but cop hatred is rampant.

Please no flaming as this is my observation.

I got sexually assaulted by a cop once while my parnter watched not able to do anything.

Even with that on board, my experience is that @rseholes are everywhere. Pick your profession and they'll be there. Just like good people making a positive contribution are everywhere.

When someone acts like an idiot, or says something stupid or inconsiderate, it really only reflects on them as an individual, not their profession.

Thank you Eve and Ragdoll.... and you both reminded me that while all military and emergency services SHOULD respect eachother as family or kindred type...we should equally embrace into our family, all victims of violent tradgedy such as rape, murder and the like.... those we had chosen to protect and couldn't.

Thousands of firefighters ( 200+ in one fell swoop ) thousands of police over the years, tens of thousands of soilders, and tens of thousands of victims of domestic violence, rape and other savagery....... not so much overpayed quarterbacks, but dating supermodels is draining as well.

Well, that's not this guy's background or life story. Raised by a single mom, bi-racial, hard time making it into college (not a lot of scholarship money), religious, long-time girlfriend. So - he's a talented athlete and he worked his way into a franchise. From what I can read, nut hugged through high-school is not who this guy is.

Personally? I'm on the side of the fence that appreciates the freedoms afforded us in America. He can choose to not stand for the anthem, and is not taken out back and shot. That's something. So, the franchise can decide to keep him employed, or not, and if they fire him, he won't have that platform anymore.

I am not calling you wrong on this, @Florian7051 - I want to be very clear about that. But I know for myself, whenever I try and research these statistics, what I find is the fact that there are no aggregated statistics that everyone can agree upon, when it comes to police and gun violence and race and fatalities and civilian comparisons. It's hard to compare statistics across platforms, because they don't all use the same set of limiting factors.

I'm not a person who hates the police as a group. I do believe, after doing a lot of reading and thinking, that there are serious oversight issues and some policy reform would do a world of good. So, personally, I don't mind it if someone wants to speak their mind and in doing so, gets other people talking about it. I just don't like misinformation or generalization, and that's what all this dialogue so easily plays into.

Well, that's not this guy's background or life story. Raised by a single mom, bi-racial, hard time...

Generalizations about spoiled athletes aside, which I'll take, this guys story is no specific, epic, struggle. Maybe not perfect, who's was? Trust me....star high school and college quarterback beats my life. Single mom? He was adopted by an incredibly decent family from the sound of it.

If your pet peeve is inaccurate generalization......maybe we should look at this hero's statements about the police more clearly?

Simply....he's done nothing substantial to better society, only himself, which, hey I'm totally fine with. But then he should be showing even minimal respect for those who are sacraficing for other's, and not inaccurately blabbering about generalized falsehoods. He wouldn't be playing football for his obscene salary if there were no thin blue line.... well because "society" would cease to exist. Where are the fact's to support his claims that there is an epidemic of police brutality?

There is no blue savagery. There are millions of police contacts a day...maybe 0.05% result in injury or death? Police will make good calls, bad calls, guys panic, the odd rare cop is corrupt, and many cops are assualted. For the epidemic social reasons no politicians seem to want to confront, I do agree that many ethnic communities suffer hugely disproportionate poverty, crime, etc and police contact is absolutely going to be disproportionate in every way. Is that a cop's fault?

I simply say....either step up and grab a uniform, any uniform and make a difference, or play football in your pig socks. It's the fact that any veteran would nut cuddle this guy, and call the 100+ dead line of duty cops -including K9's- so far this year, pigs.....that effects me.
