Hey PTSD Warriors and Ninjas,

Often when someone changes their profile picture I first think "fun" or "cute" and then I´m wondering what the reasoning or the mindset behind the picture is. I think we often choose pictures that support us in our battles or radiate something we want to say.

I chose Simba the last time because of his cheerful attitude (I just can´t wait to be King) and because I can really identify with his journey (lives in the denial jungle, goes through angry puberty, gets smashed on the head by monkey, returns to rightful place of things).

I chose the fox because I recently am employing a different strategy in my battle, which is to be cunning and lay in hiding, and change the patterns in my mind by observation and play rather than through brute force.

So I would love to hear the inspiration behind your pictures. What moves you about it? Does it teach us something, send out a message? Let me know :)

@Radise the only picture I have is my avatar which I refuse to change, because my oldest transgender grandson drew it on my lap top so many years ago inspired me. I hope this helps. I am not into media of any kind although I do like what others have done.

I love your growth in choosing the fox.

Great question! I look forward to hearing others' replies.

My avatar is a close-up of a part of one of my mixed media pieces [acrylic, wood, self-portrait photography, found objects (metal, porcelain, pottery, plastic), clay, old book pages, ink, collage images from Andrea Mattus deMeng, and metal leafing.] The title of the piece is The Wounded Warrior, an archetype I strongly identify with. I didn't want to post anything that showed my face too clearly or identifiably, but this is my most ambitious and one of my favorite pieces to date. The back of the piece is finished with a collage of old book pages and hand-lettered quotes on what it means to be a Wounded Warrior. I might at some point change my avatar to show another close up of the same piece.

Wonderful topic you have started!

I have put a mouse as I have an opinion since I have known for myself that if I would be an animal I would be a mouse. And anyway I prefer animals right now over people and I adore them ever since.
But I see myself as a mouse as I have always thought of me as really fragile person who is better in hiding than fighting and that is how I feel most of the time. I guess I out it here for that reason as I present my real feelings here, I am here the real me, so I don't have to put a lion to pretend, but I can put the image of how I really feel.

I agree with @lostforgottensoul - when I start feeling more as like some stronger animal I will gladly put the new avatar.
Until then me and my mouse will try to find the support and help here :)

Lots of support here for all types of beasties. I rather think that perhaps mice are tougher than we give them credit for. They are very adaptable, are found in various climates, can eat different types of food, and burrowing is a great survival skill! You may squeak now, Mousie, but we hear you ... And we are here for you. One day you will grumble, then speak, then shout, then roar. And we will still be here for you.
