Citalopram Experience - Any Advice?

I'm on my 3rd day of citalopram. I have dilated pupils, I freaked out this morning at a gas station cus my blood sugar was too high, or at least that how I felt. And i feel like I'm on cocaine. I've been nervous to be at work for 3 days. I'm paranoid and insecure right now haha clenching jaw, heavily dilated pupils, and extreme gittery. Hope it goes away soon!

I don't know what your dosage might be, but cut it in half. If you are on 10mg, take 5, but if you are on 20mg, you may want to call your doctor and suggest he write you a script for 10's and cut them in half. Some people are more sensitive to meds than others.
Good luck! I hope you feel better soon!

I was on 40 mg of Citolapram the highest dose. I had all described side effects and have been on it for almost a year. The shaking went away but it made me more depressed and anxiety was hell! All I wanted to do was eat, hide out and not do anything. My general practitioner just switched me Wednesday to Effexor XR because the Citalopram was not working for me and was not strong enough. I can feel a difference already. More energy, I am more social and I don't want to eat every thing in the house. I'll never take citalopram again. It's just not right for me with my chronic depression and severe PTSD. it just didn't work for me. I hope it works for you Kara24. Sometimes it takes a while to get use to a new medication. I took me a few months to get use to Citalopram. Good luck!!!! If you don't like the way it makes you feel after 2 weeks, talk to your doctor about it.

i can't begin to tell you how relieved I am to be reading these posts! I've been on Citralopram for a week and thought I was going insane. The same symptoms started 3 days after taking it; high anxiety, shaking of the hands, tight jaw muscles. As the week progressed the anxiety got worse and new muscle spasms started, in my arms and one leg. My face gets flush on and off through the day and I feel a strange burning sensation wave throughout my body. My Dr put me on this for anxiety, but the anxiety it has created in 10 fold worse. I plan to stop it tomorrow.

Hi there

I have been taking Citralopram for a month and a half. First started with one .5 mg in the pm before sleeping the first two weeks, then was asked to take two .5 mgs the following week; after the end of the month i didn't feel anything and the doctor suggested i go up to 20 mgs in the pm. I started to feel drowsy and it was impossible to get up in the morning, so he suggested i take it in the mornings instead.

All of a sudden while i was at work, i started to feel so cold, as if someone turned up the AC. I immediately started to feel aches in my neck and back and arms and legs, and started to shiver like i just had a bad fever suddenly. I was burning up and freezing cold at the same time , and actually started to experience a subtle but scary tightening in the chest that took deep breaths to calm down.

i went home and crawled underneath a blanket, and called my doctor, who said it was not the citralopram; he suggested i take a xanax bc it sounded more like a panic attack. but, here's the thing - fever, cold and aches and pains i do not get during a panic attack. he said it was most likely unrelated......but im not so sure....:|

There is a reason they constantly remind us that the same medication will not be for everyone. May be this one isn't for you- or for all the people in this thread with such bad symptoms.

Personally, I just got put on it. I am taking alternative to it with another name (Elicea), but basically I was told to buy whichever of the two names I find in the pharmacy-aparently it's the same or really similar. BUT she put me on 0.5mg for the first 6 days, then 10mg per day. Can't imagine what effects it would have had if I started with 20! Not sure if I will go higher, I guess that depends on how things go. For me it's been wonderful so far. I got some headaches more than usual, and especially the first week, I got some nausea moments...but the first week they were really strong. Now when I get them, they are a lot more tolerable. This now is I believe the end of week 2 for me, and I've been also experiencing some positive changes- I've started sometimes waking up better, without my usual racing heart(even when I can't remember dreams). Also, although I've been still feeling down or anxious at times, this week I haven't had one full blown panic attack or anxiety attack! And this after months, or a year of having them frequently! Especially in buses, and in the last weeks I was in buses a lot. But this week- no attacks! I am really happy. Also I'm starting to feel more...stabalized...like, some things still ...I still feel them strongly, but I don't feel like it will kill me if I don't change them in a week, or if I make one mistake and so on...So yeah, I'm kind of happy with how it's going. May be it would be good if it was a bit stronger, but perhaps I should wait some weeks more and see how it goes.

Just got put on Citalopram as well this is day 4 and I've been started on 25mg a day. The tremors are pretty bad and I felt tightening in chest and panic but if you guys say it goes away then that's good. I'm also seeing that starting on 25mg hasn't even been mentioned so I may have to be calling the doc soon.

I have also been on citalopram for going on 4 days now and i feel u , I dont know if i should keep going i mean the second day i felt a bunch of energy n felt like i drank 8 cups of coffee. my pupils feel like camera lenses keep on dialating ... clenching jaw ... feel awful .. 10mg and suppose to go up today to 20mg :( not sure if i want to ..... dont feel like myself at all..... feels like i am on a bad cocaine bender for 4 days. I was perscribe this for anxiety.... i dont see how this can help !

I took citalopram awhile back. I don't remember having any of these symptoms, other than feeling weird. You may ask your doctor to try ecitalopram. It is supposed to be a cleaner version of citalopram with fewer side effects. I got switched to that by my primary care doctor. I don't take either anymore because I got tired of being on meds. My wife loved it when I was on ecitalopram because I didn't have a lot of anger and could deal with people better.
