I am currently going through an extremely hard time in my life and would love to connect to others that can relate. My brief story is I have been through a ton in life including abuse from both parents in my childhood, I have been diagnosed with PTSD, I have attempted to heal all of my symptoms and move on from everything and create my own life but I have somehow relapsed and am somewhat confused about it all and feeling frustrated, empty, numb, angry and stuck.

OK. Long story..
Well, for most of my childhood and on into my twenties, I've been determined to not let any of the abuse and negative events in my life, bring me down. I always tried to be the best person I could be and keep looking at the positive in life no matter what I go through and be a good example to others to show that just because you grow up in a dysfunctional family, doesn't mean you will become "dysfunctional". When I moved out at the age of eighteen, I seriously applied myself to the religion I had been brought up in and even though I had developed PTSD symptoms, I forced myself to continue working, going to and volunteering at church (a strict religion and schedule) and also put myself through a nine month program to get my license to work in spas as an esthetician. I maintained a positive attitude, had strong faith in God and hope for the future, took care of myself by eating healthy and exercising and learning about PTSD and applying holistic practices to heal the symptoms of PTSD such as anxiety and OCD. I was very successful with what I did to move forward and very confident.
I finally got to a point where I had no more anxiety, I was finally breathing normally and was calm with no triggers and I was happy and confident and had learned to be content with what I had. There was also a guy I thought I was in love with but he was not interested in return, so I was trying to maturely move on from that and stop thinking about him knowing it would probably never work out. I figured I would just apply myself more to "spiritual things" and focus more on God. But in that moment, I remember thinking, most of my friends around me are dating or getting married, I have worked so hard to be a good person and do things right and even try to heal as much baggage as I could so I wouldn't bring it into a relationship and what more does God want from me?!!! I was sooo used to being positive no matter what happened in my life and putting my trust in a God, confident that as long as I am a good person and have God in my life then whatever I am going though, I will be fine. When his kingdom finally comes, it won't matter anyways. Just keep faith. See, looking at the bright side and focusing on a nice future, had ALWAYS gotten me through whatever "trial" I was going through.
But in this moment, I wanted to be a normal person and have feelings and cry. Maybe the problem was I didn't know how to because even when I was younger and trying to face my feelings about what happened to me when I was younger, I never really cried or truly felt any anger.
But anyways, at this point when I was trying to move on from constantly obsessing about this guy that was not interested in me, I reacted in a weird way and tried pushing positive feelings about him away and all I felt was, NOTHING. OK. So then I was thinking about how as long as God is in my life, I'm fine, but I want to feel my actual feelings, I suddenly tried pushing him away. How did I do that? Well I used to suffer from unwanted sexual thoughts and fears (OCD) but I had finally gotten to a point where they didn't bother me anymore. Well, I suddenly decided to make God unhappy and push his holy spirit away from me so I could feel my own feelings without his help, and so I DECIDED TO THINK A VERY NASTY SEXUALLY INTRUSIVE THOUGHT ON PURPOSE.
Well, I had never done anything like that before and right after I tried praying for forgiveness but all I felt after was numb and I was thinking, what the @#$% is wrong with me?! What did I just do?! And then knowing this was not the right way to handle that, I forced myself to feel guilty and like I was such a bad person. And from that moment on, I started undoing all the good including my healthy self-esteem and everything else I had worked so hard for. I totally turned into a different person and started doing the stupidest things to just ruin my life.

And now, I am seeing a therapist, the best I ever had after searching and going through like ten of them. She is an awesome therapist and keeps up to date on the latest information out there in neuroscience and such and I do my own research as well, on self-sabotage and such so I can understand it myself.
But I am sooo stuck and dumbfounded at my actions and frustrated. No matter how hard I try, I cannot forgive myself. I am disgusted with myself.
I feel as I described above, that I had found a way to overcome OCD and now, through my own doing, I have recreated an even worse OCD by thinking a horrible thought intentionally and then after, forcing myself to feel like I am an aweful person for thinking that thought instead of simply praying for God's forgiveness and moving on. But what keeps me stuck, is why did I purposely think that thoughts in the first place and then start to sabotage any good thing I had in my life. When all this was going on, I just felt numb. Sorry if my story sounds weird. I used to be a confident person who loved life and people and loved sharing my joy with others. A person who was confident about healing and moving on from my past so I could live my own life. Now I feel like I am weird and messed up. I've also since left my religion and have been shunned from it. My faith in some sort of God out there is now non-existent and bitter and confused.

I wouldn't call this a relapse because (and correct me if I'm wrong) it sounds like you never actually dealt with anything in the first place. It's seems like everything was just pushed down and covered with positivity and faith. Now positive attitudes and faith aren't a bad thing but they can't be used as a fix all. You need to feel your feelings and process your trauma(s) in order to move forward.

It's possible to feel bad AND be a good person. You can't be happy all the time it's just not feasible. Are you in therapy? If not find one priority number one.

Well how was I able to manage my OCD before and even heal my PTSD symptoms of anxiety and other things? When I felt good and healthy, I was finally in a better place in my life and I had worked very hard for many years to get there. And then this, literally out of the blue.
It seems amazing that I was able to manage it all but looking back, it was because I was able to keep all my symptoms under control by eating perfectly and having no life outside of the inclusive religion I was a part of, if that makes any sense. And leaving that religion was a mind-@#%$ for me and it still is, a few years later.

@NoWhereKnowWhere In the past, I did try my best to deal with my PTSD but I did it mostly in a holistic way without the support of my friends who were older than me and the one friend who was controlling and only wanted me to be on meds. That is a long confusing story. I also, over the years payed out of pocket for therapy sessions with a few therapists.
But you are right, even through all those years of learning to control my symptoms, I never fully felt my feelings and that always bothered me. I am doing EMDR with my therapist now and the last 3 sessions for me were powerful because it was during those sessions that I realized I had a lot of feelings I didn't even realize and it's taken me such a long time to even feel a little bit.
I am just very upset at my actions over the past few years and I have never had these negative behaviors before. I feel like I am being a teenager ten years late. And it is all very confusing because I never knew I would just suddenly start ruining all the good I worked for in my life. It still doesn't make sense to me.

OK. Long story..
Well, for most of my childhood and on into my twenties, I've been determined to no...
And just a side note that might help some understand the frustration I was going through at the time. In the religion I used to be a part of, you are only allowed to date and marry someone of the same religion. You can't marry outside. So when I was a part of that religion, at that time, I thought I would have to be content being single and we were taught that Armageddon was right around the corner so there was the fear I would never marry in this world but that I might have to wait until God's Kingdom comes.
So when I was trying to take my mind off this guy I liked and move on since he was not interested, I was rationalizing to myself that, "Well God knows me and my situation better than I do and knows what is best for me, so I will continue to remain positive and continue putting faith in Him." But it totally sucked to still be single and that pissed me off but I didn't realize at the time that I was angry with God and my situation of working so hard for so many years and this is how my life ends up. So I assumed that perhaps there was something wrong with my faith and me spiritually. And then I turned against myself and tore myself apart. I was also upset at the hypocrisy and lack of genuine love and connection from the people around me in the religion. We weren't allowed to be friends with anyone outside of the religion.

It sounds like you're going to have a lot of coping skills to take forward on your path to recovery. I'm really glad you're seeing a therapist and things are going well with them. One step at a time. No one is perfect we all make mistakes especially if we're dealing with pain. Don't be so hard on yourself you haven't messed up. You've nearly all by yourself kept your PTSD symptoms at bay for years. That is an amazing accomplishment, it's alright to get some help and guidance now. Try not to beat yourself up give yourself some care and sympathy you deserve it. :hug:s if you accept them.
