Calm Before A Storm?

I had my PTSD begin last October. Once I realized what it was, I began doing a "healing ptsd" workbook that truely helped me get through it in addition to a couple of friends. It was an extreme roller coaster of reactions, emotions, flashbacks, avoiding family, fear of therapy. The last scary/depressive day was two weeks ago. Now, I oddly feel normal and much less fear. Is my ptsd going away? My wound was opened, the blocked memory was sort of put together, but I am not sure if I really truely processed all of it. I learned great mind bridging tools from the book and if I have a trigger I text my friend who reminds me go do a problem map and bridging exercise. But is it normal to go into some sort of calm? Is there a storm ahead that I am not aware of? Because it would be nice if I could just start living again.

Wow my CPTSD started last Nov! I found this forum less than 2 months later and it's helped change my life.

That sounds great that you've been able to make such progress with a workbook on your own - may I ask what workbook it is? I'm always gathering resources for myself.

I just started EMDR with a new therapist and I really see benefits, though we haven't gotten into the very difficult work yet of EMDR. If you have a therapist you could bring this up with them, but sounds like you've been able to deal with it without therapy/on your own.

Hard to tell if there's a calm before the storm but if your symptoms have improved with your own work that really is good news! You always have this forum so if something shifts in your process you can come back and get more support, including seeking further help if needed. If your life just resumes, fantastic!

The book I used is called: Mind Body Workbook for PTSD by Stanley Block. The ironic thing is that my friend also got the book because when I was telling her about my symptoms she realized that her own experiences of dealing with her abusive family were similar. She was able to do bridging exercises over her holiday visits and it helped her a lot. My trauma was mainly one horrible event that has affected my whole life and working out of the book was painful at times. It would have been nice to have a trusted therapist, but the idea of therapy was a trigger in itself! I doubt everything is resolved, but the book has helped and I do feel calm for the time being.
