Suddenly Wetting My Pants For No Reason

When I first had trauma flashbacks of CSA, I almost wet the bed soon after. I think it reopens brain processes and body memories.

What you story sounds like is being out of your body/numb, and then suddenly it was too late. I'm sorry, this is so unsettling. I would definitely do some biofeedback and or body awareness therapy, somatic therapy, etc. This sounds like a dissociation and then coming back to normal too late.

Oh, Penny! Thank you so much for starting this thread!

I have exactly the same problem when a memory feeling comes to me. I immediately need to go to the bathroom. It took me many years to figure out why I had learned to do this. Maybe this will help you.

I had it happen one time-as an adult, and as soon as I realized it was starting, I quickly asked myself why I had to go. I had not eaten or drank anything for several hours. What I did suddenly realize is that when I was young, the bathroom was a quick way to "exit" a location or situation. It was some where I could quickly "need" to go, and everyone understood and just let me go. It was also a place where it was ok to lock the door. No one ever questions me if I just say that "I'm going to the bathroom."

I can remember going in the bathroom just to sit on the floor and cry or get myself together after having a bad memory or feeling. I also thought it funny when I remembered that when the family would go travel, no matter what state or place we were, if some one needed a bathroom--they always just asked me! Even though I had never been there--I always seem to know where it was. (Hmmm...knowing where the "escape route" was?)

Hi, I have depression/anxiety and ptsd, and also some physical problems that are contributing to the bladder problem. In the past 10 years or so, I have developed bladder problems, including increased frequency, the desperate out of the blue urge to go, and yes, accidents. It happened to me at work and on the way to work, and in public. I understand the shame and humiliation, but please remember it is not your fault. You have a medical problem, regardless of the cause. I would suggest the following, if you have not done so: 1) get yourself checked by a MD and make sure you do not have a bladder infection or another physical problem, 2) I wear 2 pair of Depends under my clothes, and find that except for extremely large accidents, that protects me and saves me from embarrassment and wetting my clothes. 3) Always carry Depends and change of underwear with you, just in case, 4) if you have had more than one incident, I suggest seeing a urologist or urogynecologist (if you are a woman) to make sure that there is not a physical cause and that there is not something that can be done to help. 5) Cutting caffeine helps me as well. 6) Pelvic floor physical therapy, which involves exercises to strengthen and relax the muscles may help.

Good luck!

I am soo glad you posted this. I have the exact same thing, where I had child hood trauma / sexual trauma connected to wetting myself, never had any issues, then when I was an adult trying to deal with the trauma, I suddenly felt like wetting myself from all the repressed anxiety.
It would come and go as different things come up.
I definitely recommend working with someone who can help you with body triggers, you are not alone!!!
