Nice grouping :) Saw another big ass bald eagle again today. Always puts a smile on my face.

I am looking into a P229 Elite Sig Sauer 9mm. I really like what I see. Any comments? Getting ready to blow the money on it. (1100 and change.) Not for CCW. Home protection.

I am used to a Colt issue .45 but that was a while ago. And I have had operations to my hands so I am not sure I can handle the recoil of a .45 anymore. It's the P229 or a good shotgun with #4 shells.

@vikingr24,

The 229 is a fine piece. I have one in the .40. It's going on 19 years old now and has been absolutely flawless. I have had the fortune to log around 15K Rds and it's as tight and accurate as it was the day I received it. The Elite I can only imagine even better.

IMO the Sig Sauer may be one of the finest handguns crafted with the exception to the 1911. I have several Sigs. 229, 226, 220, 239 and a 2022.

I think the 229 has great ergonomics. More complicated than the Glock but I love the idea of a decocker and a hammer I can physically pull and lock.

It's built like a Swiss watch. Which I dislike because it's challenging to tinker on unlike a 1911. But honestly you shouldn't need too. Customer service has been top notch.

I could go on...what more you need to know?

Grizz,

You pointed out exactly what I have experienced with P229. I like how the duck tail fits right over the hand to prevent pinching from the hammer, which has happened to me and it ain't fun. Have not seen a gun since the 1911 that handles that although I have not been shopping for a handgun in a while.

And the decocker works great and is a great idea. The earlier P series has it too but is not positioned right for me anyway. And I am a hammer guy. I like to pull and lock too. The first shot is key to a good series.

If it's as accurate as you say, and from what I have seen. I am going to go ahead and buy it -- if the handles (rosewood -- nice) are not too wide for my hand. I need to feel right about firing without a left hand support, especially with any recoil. It seems easy to maintain too. Only 3 or 4 pieces to keep track of. It's a well designed piece. I'd rather have a .40 but 9 mm is OK too.

So much of guns is an individual thing.

Thanks, Grizz.

Tuesday my wife quit her job. That would usually be a stressful situation, but we are actually in a good position for her to just relax and think about her next move. My pay covers everything that needs paid. We won't have all the extras, but let's be honest who needs 1-2 Disney vacations every year? She is putting in for "family caregiver" as much as I like to say I'm competent, I forget my meds and tend to not eat so in the end this is a good thing. I knew she was probably going to quit for a few months. She has a degree in "business leadership" and I was an NCO between us we know more about leadership than any of the leaders in her company. When you lose faith in your leadership you might as well just leave. I'm actually pretty proud of her for just walking away. It takes a lot to just walk away from a good paycheck and 5 year seniority. I know my wife, whatever she does next she will be very good at it.
