It's all good Eph...hang in there. Everyone in here hits bumps. Let's move forward. Always good to have another Nam vet...with more years experience dealing with this beast.

I won't ban a vet btw, as you confirmed with your intro.

Bullshit!!! How did I CONFIRM a damn thing? How can anything really be confirmed in such a manner? What the hell....you feeling a bit of guilt for being a shit head right off? Everybody's screwed up, vets in their own way.......you have no license to f*ck with people and then say ......oh, I'm just a cold, screwed up vet, as justification. Bullshit!!!!

Im glad you were able to open up like you did. Its not our intent to make things worse. Its just to get t know you. Things will relax around here...
Is fair to tell you about me. was trained in amphibious Intelligence I was attached to HQ 2nd Marine division. I was tasked with Humit.
I served from 1987 to 1992 6.5 years. I served in combat in Panama, Honduras, Columbia and the 1st Gulf War. All with the 2nd Marines. The Majority of my time was in Force Recon. Some was spent in 2/26 But that was only the last 6 months of service. My Commanding officer was Lt Col. VA Jacobson. I earned my Force Recon on June 11 1989 I had both my wings and lungs by then.

I did put my best foot, conservatively, forward.......and somebody stepped on it immediately.

Service in Vietnam - 71-72
Locations - fire base Bearcat, Bien Hoa Army/air base
Commanding Officer - Captain Peter Denker ......best friend last name Guthrie.......You don't get anymore until I know you better.
Officially diagnosed with PTSD .......As a matter of fact the shrink said I was the worst case he had ever seen, (great distinction), before handing me a bottle of 1000 ten miligram Valiums, with the instructions to take ten a day .......yeah, right, zombie land and/or death.
Disability compensation - 100%

Other details that a veteran would know......really. How much do you know about the operations of the 75th Infantry in Vietnam? You may very well suspect/accuse me of lying.

Our mission was long range reconnaissance patrols. We operated in six man teams.......point man....point man's slack man......two radio carriers in the middle........rear scout's slack man........rear scout. We set up claymore ambushes on likely trails. Once we blew the ambush, we would strip the bodies of everything, keeping what we wanted in the way of gear and money etc. and turned the rest over to S2....intelligence. We would insert a wooden nickle between the teeth of each of the dead.....said wooden nickle had a depiction of death on one side and our unit designation on the other......you figure out why we did that......maybe you're a fake. Any wounded were shot.....yeah a war crime by the standards of today, but that was our SOP in the Nam. We operated for five days maximum, or until we made contact with the enemy. If contact was made, we were pulled as soon as it was over, for we were then compromised. Five days was the maximum because one simply could not carry enough water for any longer period of time (we did run out with two days to go once, but that is another story). If your team made a kill, you got three days off before another mission, if you did not get a kill, you could go out again the day after returning from a mission. In the time period 71-72, we were getting over fifty percent of the entire 1st Cav's kills, with a rare maximum of six teams out at a time. I also ran a radio relay with another guy, situated on a mountain called, something like nue chal chin ( a spelling butchery), above a firebase called Mace, at the foot of the mountain. The mountain was laced with amazing natural caves that the gooks liked to hide in. I went into one of them to verify this. Some engineers blew up a bunch of them with (they said) twenty seven thousand pounds of ordinance. It shook the entire mountain......real cool, but one of our M-14s with ART scope fell off the wall, breaking the crosshairs.....real bummer.

There were whores, sucky f*cky, five dolla short time ten dolla all night.....LOL. There was reefer (grocery bag of bud for $20.00), there was heroin (plastic vials of two sizes, about $3.00-$5.00 each), there was killing.......what the hell else do you want to know?

How about you JennyMac?

Sounds right on to me. I was with the 281st Wolf Pack Guns. My unit disbanded in 12/70 We worked with Charlie 75 LRRP's Rangers a number of times, (in 69/70) as they would find some good shit and get in over their head. They would call and asked for us by name, because we never killed a friendly, they wanted real close cover.

On the one call they made it was a Mother f*cker!!! They got stuck in a cross fire, next to a small river and mountain by a lot of NVA. We went in with 6 Gunships lined up left to right, flying low and slow. (not a good idea) I called for smoke and I am looking down at this small trail and see a hand put the smoke on the trail. They were right under us, we were only taking lite ground fire, so all 6 ships fire our minis. Sorry but I had to laugh, the hot brass was hitting the guys on the ground. Next thing is this mountain comes to life Big Time, shit flying all over the place. We Guns broke into 2, 3 ship teams and went to work. On my 2nd inbound, my tracers were disappearing into a black spot. I told my pilot and he put a pair rockets into where my tracers were disappearing!!! f*ck, we get a big secondary explosion, pilot makes a hard right, we just missed the fire ball, but we could feel the heat.....Now this place is one HOT AO!!!! Pilot told me to call in for an Arc Light....Got one 15 mins out, told the Charlie 75 guys what was coming and dig in.....My pilot set up the Arc Light run, the B52 guys told us get the hell out......We flew a good 15 mins out and the Bombs started to hit. What a f*cking rush!!!! B52 guys were dead on, that mountain was no longer a mountain!!! NVA were walking around like they were drunk, 2 Companies of NVA got their asses kicked!!! Turns out this was one of the biggest arms caches found to that date. It was huge!!! Charlie 75 guys love the shit out that one, our slicks pick them up. There is more to the story, but just the clean up stuff and getting refueled....The NVA were stupid, had they not shot at the LRRP's, none of this would have happened!!!

I agree. I lost my cool, that is regretable.

I suppose I will get the site's creator to change the rules then and put it in bold headlines that you must introduce yourself properly first.

Don't take it personal ephemeral, everyone has gone through the ringer lately due to the complete wankers we have had on here. We even had one guy almost get away with it for quite a few months until he slipped up. So once again, don't take it personal. Once you have been here a while you will soon see what I mean.

We pride ourselves on having one of the best forums out there for helping people with PTSD and there is a sister site for partners/supporters and non-military types.

As you are ex military put your mind back to being a new bloke joining your unit. You did not just waltz up to a bunch of guys and start questioning our beliefs.

To start with, I agree with what you say. I would add that I think the phenomena called PTSD is not a disease as such, nor is it mental illness (although it can become so), and the fact that many in our society see it as such, bodes ill for veterans as a whole.

It's a MENTAL ILLNESS, and I have never heard it called a phenomena. The northern lights are a phenomena.

You have introduced yourself so welcome to the forum.

...................... the mentality of people here in the UK means the moment you mention it your treated like a leppa .................

From random strangers or coworkers, brothers in arms or what ever its bad enough.

The local RBL I am with has a Case Worker, thought he would tell my misses there is no such things as PTSD.

Realy pissed me off I wasn`t at that meeting, I would of introduced his Ex RMP lard arse Poncey boat race to PT and SD personaly.

But she tore him a new hole on her own, bless her cotton socks.
