Hey y'all,

My name is Brian and I am a combat vet from Afghanistan. I served in eastern and north eastern Afghanistan. I was a 31B (MP) who was attached to 3rd ID. My primary missions were dismounted patrols, convoy security, cordon/search, and support for OGAs in my AO.

I was diagnosed with PTSD and my wife of 7 years left me due to it. I've gone through counseling but I routinely self medicate. I am drunk as I write this post. I try to cut back but I become triggered too easily.

I joined to connect with fellow combat vets who aren't the "vets " who served in peacetime in the 80s who always crowd the VA and complain of PTSD. I watched a good friend die. Shot through the right eye by an AK round. Bled out right in front of me.

Anyways I thought I would say hello and that I'm new here. Hope to connect with some of you and help progress me through this time in my life.

Brian

Welcome Brian.

You'll definitely find vets here from all conflicts, all over. It's a good place. Amazing how much translates. Same shit, different weather.

Friday,

Thank you for the reply. I am currently seeking options for treatment, but thus far I have been unsuccessful. I have been spying on this site for a while and I feel it'll help. Thank you again

Welcome around, Brian.

And yeah, having death so up close it... always blows, never is comparable to anything else, and doesn't really leave, but you do f*cklot already by 'simply' living.

Hope you find the support you need. Guys around are good fellas, I think.

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes. I will be trolling around and reading some threads. Guess I'll see if it helps me

Welcome Brian, good you found this site. I am one of the old Nam farts. I liked your Quote, after reading the threads, you will find you are not alone in learning how to live with the Beast. Some of us old guys have been dealing with it for 40+ years. It will take some time and hard work on your part. But You Can Learn To Live With It.

Have at it Brother, we are all here to help you and in the doing, we help ourselves!!!

Welcome Brian, as JR just mentioned, we're here to help.

Don't give up on the group therapy - if it's NOT working then let them know.

They are NOT mind readers you have to give feedback (good or bad).

Also, try checking out a local Vet Center as they offer a whole array of services related to PTSD.

Some folks drop anchor here regularly - not a bad place for a reality check now and then. Good luck!
