New Here
I live in Georgia. I was in the Army for 9 years. I was at Fort Drum, Fort Carson and Fort Gordon. I deployed to AFG twice: 2009, and 2011/12. 2009 was with 10th MTN and AFG round two was 2011/12. First time was six months second go round was a year.

I got diagnosed with PTSD while I was still in the Army.

I started to write out the history of how I got my diagnosis...it became obvious that it was a long complicated tale which I am woefully under qualified to organize. Here is the truncated version:

Afghans, short bursts of various forms of violence with prolonged periods of waiting here or there, home, wife, baby, dissociation, drinking, drinking, nightmares, drinking, everyone is watching me, drinking, f*ck everything, more drinking, thought this was rock bottom, shrinks, PE, went nuts, meds, kept being crazy, meds, slightly less crazy, P3, Commanders Statement, MEB, Fort Couch, GA.

So it's been about 6 months now. The VA doctor told me to take my meds, get back into counseling and go get a service dog. Well I wait for that to become a thing I wake up, pills, breakfast, TV, pills, lunch, tool around, pills, dinner, pills, lay in bed awake for 30 mins until my wife falls asleep, then TV, worry about intruders, check the perimeter of my house...and eventually pass out on the couch watching YouTube videos of this or that. Rinse and repeat.

As someone told me... Welcome to our leaky boat! Grab a bucket and start bailing. :sneaky:

I don't know why the f*ck I do this either, except experience says keep moving; if it looks stupid but it works it ain't stupid; and improvise, adapt, overcome.

...and if SMH is Sex Might Help? Mark me down for that one.

Welcome to the forum.
That sounds familiar to me. I've come to the conclusion we gotta switch up the routine for things to change.
If you're in a medicinal cannabis state I'd recommend switching to that. Many here have testimonies how
it's taken them completely off the pills. Or at least some of the ones for pain etc.

Unfortunately Georgia only allows possession of canibus oil for a very narrow list of conditions. On top of that they only decriminalized possession of 20oz or less of the oil but did not provide a way to actually purchase it. So the growth, production, marketing and sale part are all still illegal.

I am originally from Colorado...so I am considering moving back home.

That would be an ideal move and plenty of access to Medicinal for sure.
You'll be well medicated and climbing Pikes Peak in no time :).

Welcome K,
Take a knee brother. What you describe is all too familiar with those of us who have experienced the same cycle. The good news is at least you have a name for it today. Like you I also tried to drown the Beast with booze for twenty five years. Twenty years later without the hooch I was awakened to PTSD and it all became very clear.
So it's been about 6 months now. The VA doctor told me to take my meds, get back into counseling and go get a service dog.

All that is very good and I might add include some combat Vets into your routine. Find a Vet center - I had no idea that the there we're others that thought and acted (re-acted) as I did. I thought I was terminally unique and all this shit would go to the grave with me. Trust me it's NOT SO.

In the mean time hang your hat here a read what worked for many of us - this is NOT one size fits all.
