What do you do to cheer yourself up?

I'm not sure if these works had ever been displayed before he died, but I am guessing you may be right about that. He may well have done them as therapy and never intended to display them.
Someone told me recently that there are so many water lily paintings by Monet because he hated them all - so he would do many with the exact same angle and everything, and in fact he asked for most of them to be destroyed after his death.
Obviously no one followed through this wish of his.... It happens with lots of writers, too; after their death, someone will find something in a desk drawer... and some things should be left in desk drawers.

The water lily paintings, though, perhaps I don't have a good eye but I think they are all pretty good. :) I miss being able to walk to a museum - that's something that used to cheer me up, too. Can be very quiet in a museum but many places you could tuck away and sit, also. Since I lived nearby so many great places over the years, I didn't feel the need to "do" the thing in its entirety all in one go - I was lucky I had that luxury as long as I did. I used to bring a notebook with me to write down stray thoughts and phrases (I can't draw to save my life). Or I'd even bring a book to read, at times. Something about that type of environment, I guess I grew up with, some kind of indefinable solace. Especially when I went alone and could skip the ever-popular "Arms and Armor" exhibits. :P

I am ultimately responsible for my own inner-peace and happiness (relative) in the here and now. And I have recently learned that I don't have to be - doing something - to find inner peace and contentment. I can just sit down
I aspire to that. So far the only thing that has allowed this is my still-new medical marijuana treatment. It is amazing when I can focus on one thing - one tv show, or one book, simple as that. Existing without having eight hundred things turning my head every second. I am not very good at sitting with myself, and maybe that is one reason I've always loved spending time in museums. You're automatically "busy", but you can wander.. I need a good excuse to do one thing at a time. Otherwise I feel all squirmy :( But, Jade, remarkable progress!, that is great to read so many positive things from you here.

And things seem hopeless, like they will never get better again. I bet we have all been there before, and will probably go there again sometimes, unfortunately.

There are no museums nearby where I live, dang it! I could SOOOooooo.... use one right now for too many reasons to mention. I think I shall go out for lunch though. I need to get out of here, because I just sprayed the place with BUG KILLER and it stinks in here!!!

Have you ever heard of Diatomaceous Earth being used @SheilaKathy for killing bed bugs. Please check out on web. I took a walk earlier because it's oh so nice outside and I'm so glad I did.

OK, I just ordered enough of it to last me a lifetime. I had to, or amazon would not ship just one to me. My order had to total over $25 in order to make it "cost effective" to ship it to me, so I just spent like $40, when the order totaled all up. The product says it is specifically for BED BUGS. I ordered 5 bottles in all.

I used the stuff for fleas, and it worked, but I found chickens worked better. I know you can't have chickens, lol. That stuff will kill good insects too, so I don't like to use it outside since I have a lot of bees and butterflies.

"The Mindful Way Through Depression" is one book that I have listened to so many times. I have it on in the background somedays in order to give my mind something else to latch onto, instead of my ruminations, obsessive thinking, maladaptive daydreaming and etc.

"The Mindful Way Through Anxiety"
is another I have the audio book of as well. They are both just great!

Oh my @DharmaGirl "The Happiness Challenges" and the other challenges that we did! Wow! A blast from the past!

@JadesJewel, awesome on joining the choir! Singing is so mindful and better yet it's fun. I'm going to sign alto even though I'm a soprano. I am hoping to get them to sing an 8 part harmony, so I can sign second soprano. I love being the voice that blends the upper and lower voices.

Keeping it very simple re choir - I'm not doin' it for "mindfulness" I am a part of something much greater than myself (choir) because it makes me feel so internally happy and self-soothed to sing and blend harmonies with others! Hoot! @DharmaGirl. In '07 I think because I couldn't breathe well I had to undego a 3hr21min mouth/throat surgery and I'm grateful that I can still sing!:singing::singing::singing::singing::singing:
