I think this is the right section to post this. “Therapy” means ‘to help’, so this is the right place for it. I’ve been getting regular Reiki sessions for several years. I always feel better after a session, seeing as my chakras are usually shut down. My Reiki Master says this is typical for people with PTSD. Last summer she and her business partner who is also my massage therapist went to England for two weeks to attend an educational series of presentations by an international group of Reiki experts. Some very Eastern centered, some doing research, and others. There happened to be several lectures regarding PTSD.

When I saw her after she returned home, she said she was going to be changing my routine. Reiki is generally expected to hold a person for a month before the chakras start shutting down due to stress, either physical, spiritual or psychological. In People with PTSD, the hold time is two weeks. So I’ve been going every two weeks since then with marked improvement in my PTSD symptoms. I’ve gotten to the point where I can feel my chakras slowing down with corresponding increase of symptoms. She taught me to keep them open and spinning by lying down and breathing the color into each corresponding chakra. This feels much like mindfulness meditation.

I was supposed to see her Tuesday but I have tendonitis and my OT therapy interfered with my Reiki time so I didn’t go. By Wednesday I was already to become depressed and suicidal. I sent email to my therapist. I was worried about my self harm thoughts and racing mind. I couldn’t eat or sleep. Just a wreck and my elbow really hurt.

Last night my Reiki Master came to me for her treatment (we barter) and just being in her presence and with my hands on her face, I felt myself coming back into my body. It was an amazing change. I slept all night and I learned that I need to make it to my sessions every two weeks.

My Reiki Master is also my Shaman. As she does the Reiki, sometimes we@ll do a shamanic journey to see how my soul is coming along. It had been floating outside of my body, shattered into many pieces. They are being stitched back together by celestial beings. Sometimes someone will appear to her, like my dog who died five years ago. He’s happy and well. One time my father showed up telling her he wants to help me. I said get rid of him, it’s a trap, he is not to be anywhere near me. This metaphysical world has been a safe place for Ptsders. Studies on Vets have shown increased sleep, less depression, more hopeful.

If you think, like me, that PTSD is a mind/body split, then we need things that bring them together. Reiki removes bad energy it is sent out into the universe where it is transmuted and returned to earth as positive energy. If you want the benefits of Reiki, don’t delay.

It's yet another method that I thought was way too "out there" to actually be beneficial for most of my life....until I tried it out of desperation after years of all the insurance approved methods making things worse.

Learning to use a pendulum thingy to read my own chakras was way cool, too. Those pendulums are fascinating.

Reiki, massage therapy, acupuncture, sound healing, fork therapy (both tuning and dinner...lol), etc. etc. have all been major life changers in my world.

I also barter with most of the healing practitioners I work with, or else it would be way out of reach financially, and insurance companies don't recognize/acknowledge/cover the benefits of those healing modalities. Grrrrrr.

I met several of them through community events like drum circles, a local time bank, healing workshops offered at a low cost or free, and from spending much time lending a hand to organic gardeners/permaculture oriented growers/foragers/master herbalists, etc. in order to pick up some skills to grow and make goods.

Inner-gy work rocks my world....everything is energy.

I had reiki done for a long time. It was nice but didn’t change anything. Was just relaxing at the time. I also learned to do reiki for awhile before I gave it up. Also saw a shaman who did 2 soul retrievals and a lot of journeying. Have also done ayahuasca. Honestly all of that was fun to try as I love trying new things but it didn’t “heal” me. What’s working for me is a shit ton of work on my old thoughts. Again and again and again and again. And making decisions that are really hard but good for me. Again and again. I’m glad it’s working so well for you but I wouldn’t claim that it will heal everyone or anyone. There’s also the power of belief in something which changes the result, the placebo effect and all that.

I've not encountered anything yet that I can say, "Boom! It healed me! Ta-da! I'm done". Nor do I expect to. Many methods are, and will continue to be ongoing for a lifetime, and also includes hard work in between. If it's simply a placebo effect, I'll still take it. All relief is very welcomed relief. How cool to have a chance to experience all of those methods. I'm way curious about the ayahuasca experience(s), but haven't had an opportunity to partake, yet.

Reiki is pretty badass. Haven’t done it for a long time.

It's not Big Pharma, so insurance could care less if we find a much healthier way to heal

You’re in the wrong part of the country! Out west we’ve got massage (reiki falls under this one), acupuncture, oriental medicine, and a whole slew of others in even our most basic plans. Like, seriously, the homeless plan includes massage benefits but not prescription benefits :bored: Much less vision or dental.

I am a certified Reiki practitioner but I generally only work on my self. I was supposed to get my certificate in herbalism in January but I was very ill, so I guess I have to start over.

One thing to watch out for if you are new to Reiki is that a lot of trauma stuff will come to the surface at first. My teacher won't do back to back to back sessions for that reason. They need to be spaced out in the beginning if you have a lot of trauma.

@KwanYingirl I am curious about what branch of Reiki Master was taught and what their linage is. The chakra system is not apart of Reiki. Chakras are Hindu. Reiki is Shinto and works with the 3 Haras Similar to chakras but not the same.

Reiki is generally expected to hold a person for a month before the chakras start shutting down due to stress
No, just no. That isn't Reiki teaching at all. Your Reiki master is incorperating a lot of other systems that aren't Reiki. That's fine, if adding other systems works, it works but it has nothing to do with the chakras shutting down. Reiki works on healing your spirit which can be damaged via physical or emotional injury. It is not about chakras at all.

In People with PTSD, the hold time is two weeks
That is utter B.S. right there. I am not saying that what they do doesn't work, clearly it makes a huge difference in your symptoms. That, I totally support! I am just saying don't attribute something to Reiki that isn't Reiki. That is not how it works. I would be able to explain it better, but I am seriously sleep deprived, dealing with health issues and trying to recover from a major stressor yesterday, so my brain is pretty much mush right now. Really, really, would love to know your persons linage though.

Shared my experience which I explained to the best of my understanding. My Reiki Master is a Shaman and she incorporates that into my sessions. Interesting that Two other Reiki Masters I’ve worked with in my past also speak of chakras. One used stones and crystals along with Reiki. One was useless, she had no idea what she was doing. There is definitely a positive effect for me by going every two weeks. I’ve never, ever had anything negative occur. No flashbacks or other PTSD symptoms. I did have a very upsetting experience with Polarity Therapy, very dangerous and the therapist pinned me down and would not let me go. Seriously doubt that was what she was taught to do. I’ve also been thrown into massive flashbacks during a college course in Body Centered Therapies where the students “practiced” on each other. Very dangerous.

Totally separate from my PTSD was an extreme chemical exposure that sensitized me to all chemicals. I am at the mercy of a society that saturates everything with potent chemical fragrances and I am always in a state of being detoxed. In and of itself requires attention. I’ve used Acupuncture for that and been thrown into flashbacks. But never with Reiki. I don’t become emotional during Reiki. Just utter relaxation. Just my experience with it.

Hmmm, might need to check into my other policy, am on medicare, being retired... but my supplemental insurance might... even if I could get a simple massage once in awhile, thanks you for the info @Friday.
